Taurus PT740 Slim, So Far... So Good...

Only have 50 rounds through it so far. But I am impressed. I gave it a complete clean/lube before I took it to the range. Not brilliant for accuracy, but close enough. A little bike tape or grip wrap to smooth out the grip is all that is really needed. Not awful to shoot 1 handed. It's not super high quality, but I would say it is above average. And it is very light in a conceal holster. Very light, and even pocketable. 0 failures, and yes I mean 0.

Picked this one over: S&W 442, Ruger LCR, Ruger LC9, Kahr PM9, Kahr PM40, and Kahr MK40. I thought that the wheel guns might be better for conceal, but when I tried them in the pocket I didn't feel it was the case. The grip on the Ruger LCR makes it a bit bulkier than you would think. Since I already have a primary carry in 40 S&W, I also favor 40. And then the fact that the PT740 Slim has a safety, makes me feel better about 6+1 carry. This will be a carry that has a round in the chamber.

I had a Glock 27 (.40), and I never really warmed up to it. The grip heel, and the grip angle, and the width, and the top-heavy feel of it... always bothered me. Just didn't gel with that one.

The Ruger LC9, btw, looks like it is going to be quite nice. Some of the levers are a bit weird sized, but otherwise, they did a lovely job on the frame and the shape of the slide. Very tempted by that one, and pretty sure it will have sold within a day or so. 380 people might want to check that one out.

And of course, cost was an issue. If the Kahr would have been cheaper, that would be the winner. But at a $200 difference, it's not a contest. Very happy with the Taurus so far.

Taurus has improved very much. I have a Taurus Millenium Pro .40 and it carries well; have fired over 400 rounds through it and works very well and is accurate.
However I'm looking for something lighter so I am soon getting the Kahr P380. Though expensive, it's a fine firearm. Many don't like the .380 but if proper ammo is used it is quite effective.

forgot 1, Kimber Ultra

I'm sort of leaned in the other direction. If I could have gone 45, I would have. There was a Kimber Ultra TLE that was whispering to me... (like a Vegas Casino seductress... but then, she would have taken all of my money by the time it was over. )

If I had more money, I would have definitely picked the Ultra above and beyond anything else in my list above. It was tight, and had a great feel, and my favorite caliber. But for a pocket, and for my budget, had to make some compromises. Will be interested to hear any Ruger LC9 comments as those become more common.

I've been extremely pleased with my 740. It absorbs recoil very well for such a small and thin gun, and has functioned 100% flawlessly with all kinds of ammo through 400 rounds so far. The adjustable sights are great for range days although I doubt it makes a difference in SHTF situation. The manual safety is definitely a plus and is very well placed/shaped for an easy flip with the thumb.

It's slim enough that I pocket carry in dress slacks 5-6 days a week for a few months now and it's so comfortable I forget it's there.

Taurus did well with this one...
