Taurus public defender

For those of you who don't like the Taurus Public Defender or the older Taurus Judge, just wait till this Summer when Taurus is introducing its Prosecutor, followed by its Court Reporter later this year (just kidding... or am I?).

Taurus had a great gun in this caliber but dropped it for the Judge. It was their Tracker in 45 Colt.
I agree with Sam, not as a Mod but as one who has a little training. This gun scares me as to the downrange unleathality of it. Is it going to stop a threat?
Also everyone touts the specialty 410 ammo for the Judge, If a Newbie is not going to train because they have this killer shotghandgun are they gong to spend the time to find this special ammo for it also.

I have been reading the Internet about the PD, and Judge. The consensus is, "great car gun." I have to agree. It will put a major hurt on a goblin trying to force his way into your benz. My question is, great car gun, but where do you store it? I won't CCW this platform. I sure don't want a firearm out in the open for obvious reasons. Good way to get yourself wasted during a traffic stop.

If you store it in the center box, or console, it will take time to retrieve. I seen these steering column holsters from the NRA catalog.

I would choose something else to defend the Winnebago.

The other thing, that I must add, these are made by Taurus.

There are under-dash systems or you could rig a kydex or some such holster under the dash. However, that assumes you spend a lot of time in your car. Me, I ride a motorcycle a lot. I don't carry a "motorcycle gun". Heck, we have 3 cars and 2 bikes. Some mornings I get up not knowing WHAT I'll be on or in until I make up my mind.

When I'm in the car a lot, I've taken to a cross draw fanny pack. I work from my car twice a week, get up out of the car, have the gun with me, usually a Taurus, but a M66 3" in .357 magnum. I'm competent with this weapon and trust a .357 magnum 140 grain Speer far more than 000 out of a .410 short barrel. If I thought the PD was for me, though, it'd fit in that same fanny pack, I think. I can just barely fit a square butt 4" K frame in it. The 3" Taurus fits well. Anyway, I could FIND a fanny pack that would work. :D

Again, it wouldn't be my first choice either, but I just find the negative commentary so over the top that I find it strange.

If somebody says they carry a .38 with lead slugs, you don't have a bunch of people climbing over each other to call that person an idiot. But, mention that you like the Judge or S&W Governor with 00 or 000 buck and people start foaming at the mouth.

000 Buck is .36 caliber in diameter - the same as a .38. I don't know what the velocity is out of such a short barrel, but it must at least rival .38 velocities. You get four or five balls with each pull of the trigger. That's formidable by any measurement even if the slugs (balls) are only 68 grains each.

I don't see it as an ideal car or carry gun (too big). I see its best use as a home defense gun. Personally, I'll take a 12 gauge in that role but I'm not going to sneer at anyone who uses a .410 handgun for home defense. If you can knock down a deer at 40 yards with 00 or 000 buck, then you can certainly put down a home invader at 5 yards with buck.

Actually, I've thought about this one. I'm a cap and ball nut, love 'em. Now, old Wild Bill Hickok carried a brace of .36 caliber Colt Navies and he killed a lot of men with 'em, too. Think about getting hit with 4 or 5 shots at once from those .36s, then there's 4 more for ya backin' that up.

I still prefer my .38, though. At least it fits in my pocket and only weighs 17 ounces unloaded. :D

I have the S&W Governor. It's my walking around in the woods gun. I have it loaded with winchester PDX (discs and bbs') and .45 colt alternating shots. Good for snakes, hogs and pretty much anything else I may run into in Florida.
