Taurus Thunderbolt

Oh yeah, definitely could take deer with it out to about 100 yards or so. In Texas it just has to be a centerfire round to be used for hunting. I've taken one doe so far with my Marlin in .45Colt, ya just have to know where she hits at what distance.

If it comes out in 44 mag I'm buying one.

I looked over several 'clones' that have since gone out of business, the Taurus is completely re-engineered. The Lightning Rifle/Thunderbolt has a look that's very 19th cebtury... its 'waspish' in a time when an iron framed Winchester dwarfed it... though there were some large frame lightnings made. It look smore like a 'gallery gun' or Englishman's sporting arm... and I think that's part of it's charm, though it wouldn't look out of place in a saddle scabbard.

I don't know where they are, but I'm waiting also. Personally, I want one in .45 Colt with a 16" barrel. Handy? FAST? YOU BETCHA!!
Make it a take down and you are very close to perfection

they're going for around $850

OUCH- one place on-line was taking pre-orders for them for $340!! Perhaps once they start shipping in numbers they will be more reasonable. You sure they were the Taurus and not the Beretta, or AWA or USFA models?

No I'm not I assumed that they were Taurus because I did not know of another maker.
After I saw the $850 price tag I wasn't interested anymore

Sorry for the false alarm
Apparently these were not the elusive Tauri

I'm gonna go back to my day job now, searching for bigfoot

USFA's version. Starts at $1345- they do offer a 20" carbine version.

Of course, since it was built in 1885, it won't have the modern metallurgy or CNC parts, or warranty you might find with one of the other modern renditions. ;)

Maybe not....but you can pretty much be guaranteed that it will be free of MIM parts and any unnecessary lawyer-proofing billboards on the barrel and safeties on the hammer! :neener:

Roger that, pbhome71. I spent my Thunderbolt stash on my wife for her birthday and anniversary presents.

Are you listening, Taurus? You have lost customers!

We have a show coming in a couple of weeks

The guy that had the Thunderbolt looking guns will be there If I makeit out there I'll look at what he has.

The refinancing on the house should come through by then so I should have an impressive wad with me for the first time

I've handled and fired a couple of the AWA Lightnings. I really like them.
AWA even produced them in .44-40 and .38-40 just like the originals.
If you can find one they're a good value.

It seems that all of the new versions are only going to be available in .45 Colt.
Maybe I'm just too much of a traditionalist, but the idea of .45 Colt in a cowboy rifle just feels wrong, since it's only been relatively recently that anyone chambered a rifle in .45 Colt.
For over 100 years the .45 Colt was a handgun only cartridge.

Today the Taurus website says these are now available. Too late Taurus- my money went to something else. You'll have to wait for my next bonus check late in 2006- and I think that will go toward a Central American dove hunt.
