I recently bought a Taurus Tracker 44 Magnum, 4inch ported barrel. The store also through in a box of birdshot. I got to looking at the barrel porting. its basicly a 3 inch barrel. The last inch is bored bigger in the inside, then at the very end of the barrel, theres a inside lip. I got to thinking, that if I shoot the birdshot, the bbs will get stopped by the lip and probably mess it up the revolver.

Does anyone know if birdshot will mess it up or will it be safe?

It won't "mess up" the revolver, any more then a very bad case of leading in the ports & front of the chamber.

Without a doubt, the CCI shot capsule will start coming apart the instant it clears the rifled portion of the barrel.
At that point, plastic shards & possibly some shot pellets will try to exit the ports.

If someone is standing to the side "you could shoot thier eye out!"

If I were you, I would not use CCI shotshells in a ported revolver.
I believe CCI says the same thing.

In fact, they say on thier website: "WARNING: Do not use these or any other shot cartridge in handguns having ported recoil compensators."

I looked on the box and it didnt say anything. but the website does say do not use in ported recoil compensators like rcmodel said.

so I either need to ditch the birdshot or get another 44 mag.

Thanks for the info
