I traded for a NIB Taurus Tracker 44 mag today,
Basically will be a 44spl - 44 Spl + P but with the ability to be stepped up to 44 mag
5 shot .. Cylinder diameter is basically the same as a S&W 69 .. It is listed as a 4 inch barrel.. but in reality the barrel 3.2 inches long .. when measured from the forcing cone to were the barrel ends ... the barrel shroud has porting and extends 1 inch more than the actual barrel... so the last inch of the barrel is a shroud with ports only ... odd ... but it is what it is ....On my scales it weighs 34oz on the dot ... stock ... so the barrel configuration may be a good thing with 44 mag loads ...
The cylinder diameter
Tracker 1.554 inches..
S&W 69 is 1.56 inches
Which in my book is equal
I do believe the Tracker frame size floats between the K and L frames which is a small window ..
Overall lockup is good , fit and finish is good
Trigger ... seems good ..
Those dreaded Ribber Grips ... fit my small hand well ...

I’ve shot one of these before. I liked it but it also illustrated to be just how much more blast comes from a ported barrel with full magnum loads. I think you have the right idea to go for hot 44 special. Enjoy the new revolver

I have owned the Trackers in 45 Colt , 45acp ,
41 mag & 357 ... all same set up ...just not in 44mag

Hopefully next summer... I can maybe get back to handloading and work up some mid powered 44 mag loads .. or higher pressure 44 spl

I have the both the 2.5” version and the 4” ported version. They are my favorite handguns. I got hogue grips off amazon for $20 and like them a lot better. I think you’ll enjoy yours.

I had a blued version that I stupidly sold. It really made a better 44 special than 44 mag. I did shoot a few mag rounds from it but liked hot 44 special type loads in 44 mag brass the best. I thought the crane seem small for a 44 mag gun. And I did not like the ported barrel. If they would make the same exact gun without the barrel ports I would be all over another one.

You have a good looking gun there.

And a true 4 inch barrel ...

Yep .. Im looking up some Data .. for a lower pressure 44 Mag ...
I have a passel of 44spl .. most of it standard pressure... I also have 100 or more rounds of Speer 200gr Golddot 44spl loaded to 900-925 FPS ( out of a 4 5/8 barreled Blackhawk) .. which I carried in my Bulldog and carry in my Boomer ...
Tracker replaced my Bulldog

I have a 2.5" Titanium 41 Mag. I think it weighs 21 oz. It runs Grizzly's 250gr WFNGCs at a chronoed 1,150 fps. Much more fun with 215gr cast swcs at 840 fps.

Taurus is the gun on the left (right gun is a Charter Arms 41 Mag)

I have a couple of Charter XL frames ( 357 & 45acp) .. big ole cylinders...1.61 in
As compared to the 1.56 on a S&W 69 !!

Yes remove the goofy porting and just leave it with a 4" barrel. Now you have something. IIRC I used around 8grs of Unique with a 240gr lead bullet in 44 mag cases. The load should have been getting around 850-900fps. It wasn't too bad to shoot but had some power behind it. The porting was a big reason for me selling it since they stated to not shoot shot loads from the ported barrel. I bought the gun because I was on a deer lease out in the Abilene Tx area and it was full of rattle snakes. I wanted a snake pistol. And maybe a hog gun since there were hogs all over there too. You know, just in case I got a chance at a close range hog shot. In the end I wish I still had it.

I recently traded into the 2.5" version of the Tracker that you just aquired. It's the Rossi version, which is blued, and lacks the adjustable rear sight.

The idea of a good .44sp in a .44mag case is also what I'm looking into. I've got the Lee 240gr TL mold and have already cast some up. I'm thinking of going with Trailboss for fun practice - if I can get my hands on some large pistol primers! I've got plenty of small pistol and rifle, but those won't scratch the itch...

Hopefully soon!

Owned a blued long bbl'd version of the tracker over a decade ago, can't remember the bbl length. Fairly accurate and was actually fun to shoot.

Didn't have coated bullets back then so after a couple of trips to the range with cast/lead bullets it got old digging lead out of the porting. But on a good note, never needed any lamp black on the front sighto_O
