I have read quite a few threads on various lights. I am going to buy an Eotech XPS2-2 soon. So I wanted to find a light system that will achieve my HD goal and at the same time for more affordable.

Please comment on the following:

While that Klarus has an impressive light output in terms of lumens, it's using a physically large Cree XM-L LED in a small reflector. It's a very floody light that doesn't have much throw. For weapon mount or other serious use I also have a hard time trusting Chinese made switches that aren't made to a US or Canadian company's specs and don't undergo the US or Canadian company's QA/QC.

I'd feel far more comfortable with a US assembled Streamlight TL-2 - http://www.opticsplanet.com/streamlight-tactical-tl-2-led-flashlights-88105.html and Streamlight's pressure switch - http://www.opticsplanet.com/streamlight-tl-tactical-light-remote-switch-with-8-cord-88185.html. Despite the lower total output that Streamlight uses a physically small Phillips Luxeon Rebel LED in a medium sized reflector. That combination lets the TL-2 have good throw despite the lower lumen numbers. On my HD AR-15 I still run a 200 lumen Surefire M600 Scout that I picked up used for under $100. I went that route because I more concerned with reliability than huge light output numbers.

If you must have high light output spend a few $ more to get an Armytek Predator - http://www.armytek.com/products/fla...tek-predator-xp-g2-variable-bezel-colors.html with 670 lumen Cree XP-G2 or an Armytek Viking with 1010 lumen Cree XM-L2, both of which have reflectors that can actually put that output to use. Their pressure switches are also $15 to $18 - http://www.armytek.com/products/accessories/remote-controls/.

The Predator / Viking aren't much bigger than a Surefire 6P, but have a 9.5mm larger diameter lens. Armytek lights are made in Canada from US and Japanese components. I have a first gen Predator, and it's nicer than any other production hand held light I've owned. It's nearly as nice as a customized Surefire (someone else's project that I finished after picking it up in trade) that would cost $250+ to replicate.

Hopefully I haven't overloaded you, but pick my brain on flashlights if you need to.

Thanks for the comment! I'm getting the feeling you are suggesting that maybe I should be focusing on quality.

Cost is not an issue. I just thought I would accomplish my lighting needs with a Klarus and save some money. I am a saver, always have been. So, thank you for refocusing me on quality.

I will research Surefires today. Someone has mentioned the Surefire M952V. I didn't see a reason to pay that kind of money and didn't think I needed an IR light as well. Maybe I'm thinking that wrong. I really don't see myself using NVG in a HD/on property situation. On the other hand, if the SHTF scenario where BGs were everywhere, I would imagine NVG would be a plus.

Do you know if Surefire has rebates during the holiday season?

As for the Eotech, I could buy it today if I wanted to. Another poster suggested waiting since they generally run rebates around the holiday season. I plan on buying it from my LGS since I do not want to deal with a potential problem of getting a fake. With my LGS at least I have recourse if there is a problem.

One other item, is it worth paying $40 more for an Eotech XPS3-2 (NV) vs a XPS2-2?

Thanks for helping!

The current Surefire V lights have been out for a while now. My educated guess, from several years of watching Surefire model cycles, is that the V lights have to be due for new models fairly soon. I wouldn't spend $535 on a V weapon light. If you really want to get into night vision, send a PM to taliv. He has pretty extensive hands on experience with it from using it in low light civilian training and advanced practical shooting competitions.

Surefire rebates or other official discounts are exceedingly rare, unless it's a product that's being discontinued. I like my used SF M600 Scout. If I was buying new, I think the Streamlight TLR-1 HL Long Gun Kit for $185 - http://www.opticsplanet.com/streamlight-tlr-1-hl-flashlight-630-lumen-long-gun-kit.html - is a far better value than $300+ for a Surefire Scout. The actual comparable SF product is their $270 X300U plus the $150 XT07 remote switch assembly.

Supporting local businesses is great. However, I wouldn't rule out buying from a reputable online dealer. Optics Planet is a commercial member here, and they even offer a discount to THR members.

If you think you're going to buy NV in the near future, yes. If you have the funds to do it, I also think it's worth spending $100 more to get an Aimpoint T1 that's half the weight and can be left on all the time. Aimpoints will run for several years on a medium setting on a single battery.

Again, if you're absolutely serious about sinking several thousand into a real NVD talk to some of the guys here who have used them extensively. I got to play with a NV monocular a couple times in the field while in the USAF, so I just don't have the experience to help with sights and IR illuminators that play nice with NV.

Tons of surplus Surefires on the market now, may be a bit dated but I would give them a hard look. I often see used ones for $100 and new ones for $200 or so. Was cases of them in the local shops when I was at Ft. Campbell. sle-bay also usually has a pile of them also.

Thanks for the link and advice on OpticsPlanet!

When I went to my LGS and tried an Eotech XPS2-2 on a AR15 I could pick up the reticle when handling the AR15 both right handed and left handed and when both eyes were opened. I am left eye dominate.

I tried the Aimpoint H1 with the same results, but I preferred the XPS with the two dots bullseye and wider point of view. The top zero at 50 and 200 yards with the bottom dot zero at 500 yards. I like the bottom ring zero at 7 yards. I wish Aimpoint had a similar reticle...

Again, thanks for the help!
