So looks like I will have more money to play around with than I previously thought. My wife asked me how much I got back last year, and I told her. She then said "Okay, take this year's, go buy your new uniforms, and keep whatever's left over." Of course I'll buy her something nice, but I'm thinking of getting a 1911.

Looking through Bud's, I saw this:

Pros/cons of the Para Ordinance? I handled one at Cabela's last month, and I really liked it. I want the single stack version, because I'm of the opinion that making a 1911 a double-stack messes up the ergonomics a bit. My limit is $800. Also, any other suggestions for a decent 1911 (stainless, from a reputable company)?

The only 1911 I have a lot of experience with is my Taurus, and it has been a great gun. They just released a stainless model. If I were going to buy another, in the price range you specified, I would look at: Springfield, Kimber, Dan Wesson, Colt, and Smith&Wesson. I have had my eye on this one recently: http://www.cz-usa.com/product_detail.php?id=66

Springfield has the best price, probably Colt next, very similar quality; the others seem a little higher without any gain in quality.....another plus for Springers is customer service

A SA Loaded is right in that ball park. I can personally attest to the great customer service from SA. Around here you could get a Colt stainless for about that price as well. (80 series and 70 series re-issue)
