I would compete if they had something for the "Slowest gun in the East"
I think my cowboy name would be something along those lines. Droopalong SloPoke Molasses Sluggish Crosseyed Snailtrail Thumbs ... I could never compete.
The CAS matches I fired with the club not far from here, were lots of fun. Very laid back, no pressure, etc. Try it!

My laser engraved Taylor's Uberti Cattleman 45 LC revolver is snug as a bug in a budget holster belt I pieced together for under a hundred bucks. It is smiling at me.
I ordered 150 rounds of 900 fps 250 gr lead round nose ammo, but still have not shot it.

Just an update of holster decorating. I have shot this since. I love it.

I bought mine off of that popular gun auction site. I would advise you to think about cleaning up the hammer area before dry firing for a nice clearance if you are bothered by scratches as there is some contact. Can't be seen with hammer down but mine was dry fired some before it came to me. I had mine in less than a week but it was in stock at the dealers shop who was the seller. Other than that you are going to love it.
Smooth action, straight shooter. If you reload, use 8 grains of unique but no more than 8.5 grains and 250 grain lead bullets and a good crimp. I can send you to an excellent source for reloads if you need that.

I do reload, and my current pet load is 5.0gr. of Clays topped by 200gr. LRFP.

I really don't like Unique, it's just too dirty for my taste. I made a a bunch of loads and they all were dirty. The case didn't obturate until I got to 9.0gr. Unfortunately that is not something I want to shoot a lot of.

The other problem I found was that Unique doesn't meter very accurately through either my Lyman's 55 or my Lee Precision. I found variations of as much as +/-.2gr. so I get random variations I don't like.

The Clays loads are pretty light, but they are consistent. While the 5gr. is not enough to obturate the case either, at least it doesn't come out of gun all covered in crud.

On a side note, how much did you end up getting the gun for? The one I ordered is the 4.75" version, and my LGS was able to get it for me for $750, a little over $100 under retail.

775.00 shipped and then 35.00 for the transfer at my gunshop. I know so little about reloading. I don't shoot all that much but stay stocked up on bullets and stuff, Usually try to keep at least 200 rounds on hand for pistols and 100 rounds for my rifles. I couldn't find any boxes of 45 LC of round nose lead anywhere except a guy who had them for about 38 bucks a box per 50. I got 3 boxes cause the shipping was $30, so my boxes cost about 48 bucks each. He used 8.6 grains of Unique and said they were 900 fps loads. Next time I am dropping down closer to 8.2 grains. I clean up my firearms after every use, so it don't bother me much. I have some hornady LE and other hollowpoints that are safe to shoot in this or my 1873 uberti rifle but they cost a heep more.

Well, I had to pay sales tax for mine and the California DROS ($25), so the whole thing ended up costing around $850.

Anyway, did I read this right? You bought ammo reloaded from some unknown guy on the net?

Not a good idea!

First of all, unless he has a license to manufacture ammo it's against the law for him to sell it, second, and more important, do you know and trust his skills?

It's one thing to buy reloaded ammo from a known outfit that has hundreds of thousands invested in machinery designed to deliver consistent product, versus taking some unknown ammo and shooting it. It only takes one bad one to ruin your day. So I for one wouldn't.

Also paying $38 for home reloads is waaay overpriced, that's the same price you find new ammo at Cabelas, or Midway. Assuming one already has the brass, and many people scrounge it for free from the range, the cost to reload a box of .45LC is about $7. Even if you used brand new, virgin brass, the cost would be around $25. Then he overcharged for shipping. You can ship a medium USPS Priority flat rate box for like $12 regardless of weight.

I strongly suggest you should learn to roll your own. There is safety in what YOU KNOW YOU DID, rather than trust the unknown.

The fella that reloaded them has a Class 6 FFL and manufactures this ammo. Yes I know it's expensive. Legally I don't think that ammo can be shipped thru the USPS. They came Fed-Ex or UPS. I am contemplating getting a reloading set-up for 44 mag 45 acp 45 LC and 45-70 ammo, or at least the dies I need if a friend of mine who reloads doesn't have the die sets. I am saving my brass.

One of our newer shooters has the word "Slowpoke" in his alias.

J-Bar told you right. Get thee to a match. It's a lot of fun regardless of where you finish. Besides, you might surprise yourself.
