My sister has never been all that much of a fan of guns. Shes not anti by no means. She love the ones I have she just dosen't want one herself. Any way I was shooting the 38 spl the other day and I had a oil bottle det up and 15 yards and was hitting it constitly she was there and wanted to shoot it. So I tell her what to do and she hits the can 5 out of 6. :what::what: We have a good laugh. But now she realy wants to learn how to use a gun properly. more specific the handgun. I learned to shoot a handgun when I was 12 by reloading 100rds for the same 38 and trail by error.Alot of Error but I did learn. So my question is what type of handgun should I use to teach her to shoot?

God Bless

Do you have a .22? For teaching someone to shoot a .22 is the best. Low recoil, cheep ammo, need I go on?

Maybe a 38? Sounds like a good fit already, and if it ain't broke....:D

Of course, this is a great excuse to buy a fun semi-auto 22 (I like Ruger's 22/45, but follow your own path) for yourself -- to let her borrow on occasion

I always start with the safety first and foremost. That is a whole other subject but as far as accuracy goes I simply draw a proper sight picture for whatever gun the new shooter will be shooting. I will start with a .22 auto loader and work up to my G34. The front sight is the biggest thing that is not stressed with new shooters. Tell them to focus ONLY on the front sight after they get proper sight alignment. Than it is about proper trigger control. Pressing the trigger with the center of the pad. I will load 10 rounds with 3-4 snap caps in the magazine randomly so they can see the flinch. This has helped me teach several new shooters and works very well. Also saves lots of ammo because it makes them slow down and recognize their mistakes. Hope this helps.

Sounds to me like .38 is a good idea. Hope you don't teach her too much accuracy wise, seems that she might have that part. Besides, apparantly you already reload for the .38.

"...I tell her what to do and she hits the can 5 out of 6...to teach her to shoot..." You have. However, if she's thinking formal target shooting, set up some NRA bullseye targets, tell her what the rules are(sounds like she's a safe shooter already) and see what happens. Just don't get PO'd when she shoots better than you do.
Women are inherently better shots than men are. They're far easier to teach too. Speculation has it that it has to do with not having John Wayne and other TV/movie guys to live up to. Most guys tend to think they're naturally good shots. They aren't. Women tend to be.
