Folks
I'll come into possession of a super clean and rarely used Ted Williams 30-30 sometime this weekend and was wondering since these were made in the likeness of the Winchester 94 (am I wrong here?) where do repair/replacement parts come from if needed? If an item fits the Win 94 can I assume it will fit the TW version? Is there a way to find the manufacture date of the TW rifle?

Thanks!
Mark

I can't tell you about the date but they are Winchester 94's. Numrich Arms (e-gunparts.com) has some original stocks and such for the TW-94, the last I saw.

Thanks

I know there are more than a few of these rifles out there even if they are not highly coveted.

Were the TWs built cheaper or from inferior components?

No. They're simply Winchester 94's rebranded as "Ted Wiliams." It's possible they may have had a hardwood stock rather than Walnut, but that's about it.

Sears used to sell a lot of guns, and usually sold the "name" brand right alongside their "house brand." I remember back in the 70's I was in the market for a 30/06. The choice was between the Model 70 Winchester, and the "Ted Williams" gun at the same store. I eventually went with the Winchester, because it had a walnut vs a hardwood stock. Other than that, they were they same gun. Well other than that, and the Winchester cost more. I forget how much more.

I've still got a couple of Sears shotguns. The only shotguns I've got.

I have a Ted Williams 30-30 also. I got it used in '88 from a co-worker for $100. It had been stored in someone's garage and the finish was slightly rusted, but the internals and barrel were like new and the stock passable. It is super accurate for me with open sights.

From what I have been able to gather it is identical to the Win '94. The only exception I've encountered is the forearm stock and barrel band setup. I wish that was the same because I'd like to completely refinish the gun and replace the wood, and I have not been able to find a source for the forearm stock and band. As you can probably tell, the are all top eject also, not angle eject. Numrich is the only place I've seen parts for these.

Good luck with yours, I've sure enjoyed mine.

I have one that I bought from a guy at work. He bought it in 1976 and it has a nice walnut stock. It's a great shooter and all the mechanical parts seem identicle to Win 94 parts.

I have wondered if the forearm could be replaced with the Win barrel band type. Cabelas has replacement Walnut stocks and forends for Win 94's. You could get a barrel band from Numrich.

Got her home and removed the side mount scope. There was a pencil eraser size spot where water got between the mount plate and the receiver at one time or another but no big deal. I do have to squeeze the lever firmly to release the trigger safety but standing in 2 ft of snow with open sights I did drill a fence post at 80 yards (on the 2nd shot)...and I learned there's a bit more recoil with a 170 gr 30-30 round than my .357 Marlin. LOL!

Here are my levers, 1979 39A, 1977 1894c .357, and the new addition TW 30-30 at the bottom. I need to research the manufacturing date for the 30-30 and obviously, I can never pretend to be a photophographer.
