Teen Beats Up Officer During Traffic Stop, He is Shot Twice, Hit With Taser, Continues The Assualt
GULF BREEZE, Fla. (AP) -- A Santa Rosa County sheriff's deputy shot a teenager in the upper body as the young man and his brother beat up the officer during a traffic stop, officials said.
Deputy Danny Aloy tried to pull over Luke Mullikin, 18, and Matthew Mullikin, 22, for speeding along U.S. 98 near Gulf Breeze on off-road motorcycles Thursday.
The Navarre brothers led Aloy behind an American Legion Post, where one of them tripped Aloy as the deputy tried to handcuff him. Both then beat and kicked the deputy in the head, said Sheriff Wendell Hall.
Aloy fired two shots, one of which hit Luke Mullikin, said Deputy Jerry Henderson.
Sheriff's Sgt. Pat Vega arrived shortly after the shooting and found Matthew Mullikin on top of Aloy, striking him in the face. Matthew Mullikin continued beating Aloy after being shot twice with a Taser gun, stopping only when Vega hit him with a baton, according to a sheriff's report.
Luke Mullikin was in good condition at Pensacola Baptist Hospital. Matthew Mullikin was treated and released, then booked at the Santa Rosa Jail and held without bail, Henderson said.
Officials planned to charge both with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, attempting to flee or elude law enforcement and resisting arrest without violence.
Aloy, who suffered cuts, bruises and a concussion, was put on paid leave pending investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Hall said.
