What a shame. Be too careful...twice...and then check again...and then once more...and then keep nobody downrange...and check the gun one more time for good measure.

Too bad about the loss.

I would however email the editor in chief of that paper and ask them to change "assault rifle" to "sporting rifle" because I'm sure thats what it really was.

Theres no reason to lie about what really happened in order to make the article sound like its more than what it is.

Who in their right mind would hunt with a ak-47?

why not? Adequate caliber, reliable gun. Not exactly as accurate as one would like in a hunting gun, but otherwise it's fine.

Prayers going out to the family for their loss. No parent or grandparent should ever have to bury a kid, even because of stupid negligence.

If only they were hunting with a Remmy 700 in .30-06. The boy would probably still be alive, since everyone knows that no bolt gun is NEARLY as deadly as an AK-47 assault rifle.

Idiot reporter!!! :cuss:

OK, even if you can get past the fact that a "tree limb" engaged the trigger and the safety was off...But why did this idiot have that gun pointed at his grandson's back?

What a sad, sad story.:(

Sad, he should have had the safety on. That is something the Grandfather will mourn over for the rest of his life.

As it was said in the book "The Old Man and The Boy" that it is better to miss a shot, then turn your best friends wife into a widow.

I have no idea. The AK47, a piston-driven russian rifle designed in the 40s chambered in 7.62x39 with detachable magazines, is a terrible choice for a deer rifle.

The SKS, a piston-driven russian rifle designed in the 40s chambered in 7.62x39 with fixed magazines is a much better choice, which is why its more popular.
