Tell me about a series 180 mini-14

I just picked up a series 180 mini last night that looks hardly fired if at all. I need some info on any issues with stripping it down and if the factory vented handguard will fit on this model and anything I might need to know about a 34 year old mini14.

George, you have the original model of the mini-14. it is more of a collector than a shooter. there is no factory support & very limited parts availability for this model. if something breaks you are pretty much out of luck. even the handguard you seek is unique to this model. if you are looking for a shooter i would try to sell this rifle to a collector & pick up the newest version of the rifle.

what pbrktrt said,except the thing won't break,so don't worry.
If you are real worried about it,just let me know and I'll swap you for a newer one.
I'd switch the front sight for of of the aftermarket ones with the flash hider and "ears",I never cared much for the post that came on the 180's
