Hey yall! I'm looking to buy my first rifle, and it will be an AR.

My uses will be mostly shooting from the bench and clutching while reading SHTF posts on internet forums, but who knows what i'll want to do in the future(3 gun/varmit)?
THis will be my only AR for a long time due to budget.

ANyway, I'm looking at the Rock River Arms Elite CAR A4. I"d get it with an A3 detachable sight.
How accurate will this
be in the hands of a good shooter? I'D rather not spend lots of moolah on a rifle that shoots 2moa on a good day.

ANyway, i'd appreciate any comments you have about the platform (midlength, chrome lined, Hbar), and about the weapon in general.

(FYI: The other contender is the RRA varmit with an 18" barrel).

I'm not asking "which should I get", but if I can better understand how these rifles to preform, then i'll be better able to make the decision.

Thanks guys and gals.

1] Chrome lining is the way to go. It isn't a necessity, but it just makes life easier. Cleans easier, reduces wear, is more resistant to rust, and aids in making extraction just a little bit easier.

2] Accuracy. Well, here are some groups from a 1/7, 5.56 NATO chamber, govt profile, A2 20" barrel...

This fellow from AR15.com was using 75gr match grade ammo. Group on the left is from a free floated barrel, group on the right is non-free floated.

I did this same accuracy test with my own 75gr handloads and I got exactly the same results. Less than a tenth difference from his groups. I have the exact same barrel. I feel that is a very realistic assessment of the AR's service-grade performance.

NOW, RRA uses what is called the Wylde chamber. This is pretty much a 5.56 in its ability to handle pressure and reliably feed and extract; however, it is tightened up in just the right places to increase accuracy over standard NATO chambers.

Expect the RRA barrel to be more accurate, but it will not be a 1-hole tack driver.

I own a an Elite Car A4 which I love. It comes with the .223/5.56 Nato chamber (not the Wylde). I also have owned a RRA Varmint which does use the Wylde chamber. The Elite will show MOA at 100 yards. I have bettered it to sub MOA with some handloads. The Varmint is a one hole tackdriver. It comes with a 3/4 MOA at 100 yards guarantee. I have shot sub 1/2" groups with mine.

The Elite Car is my 3 gun AR rifle. It works for me. It is a chrome lined, 16", HBAR. It will shoot a 10 shot group at 600 yards (scoped) into a 12" Shoot-N-C all day. It is accurate enough.

My Elite set-up for a night shoot:
