Well folks, I'm about ready to order an RRA Elite CAR A4 from Eagle Firearms (I'll actually order an upper & a lower, both RRA). Anyway, I wanted to run my specs by you to get your thoughts:
-chrome-lined barrel
-removable tac mount (I plan on getting an Aimpoint later on)
-mid-length rail

I understand there are a number of options for rails available on RRA rifles. (I'll be buying with the rail already installed). RRA lists a Quad-rail free float & Surefire Tactical Rail Handguards on their website. Which one is better? The Surefire is more expensive, but that doesn't always mean better.

Anything else I should consider?

The Surefire quad rail is not free floating. The free floating one RRA has in their options is most likely a Yankee Hill Machine, which from what every one AR15.com says, is good for the money.

Even better rail systems are the Larue and Daniel Defense.

What's the biggest difference between the Tac Mount and a standard removable A2?

I've heard nothing but great reviews about the RRA midlength.

One of the freefloat rails offered by RRA is a Daniel Defense.

You might want to contact Correia (our moderator) before you spring for an RRA right now.

I personally have an Elite CAR A4. The only real changes I made were the weaver gas block and the chrome lined barrel. I left the normal handguards on there mostly because I'm not attaching anything and it cuts out a lot of the cost. I "may" upgrade at some point to a quad rail, but I actually like the stock hangaurds. Another upgrade I made was to the magpul trigger guard. I would either get the Magpul or the Oberland Arms trigger guard. There is a lot of debate on this issue, but I just like them better.

I have a YHM Quad Rail on my Rock River. I am happy with the gun and the rail. I think Yankee Hill stuff is great quality, and priced very competitively.

i got the YHM quad rail on one of my RRA uppers as well. it is excellent

however... YHM also makes a quad rail with much larger holes. a friend has one and claims it doesn't heat up as bad. i forget what they call it, but consider it before you buy.

for those of you who like DD and Larue better, why? (i've got some larue stuff, but no experience with DD)

I bet you are thinking of their Lightweight version, which is lighter because it has, well, bigger holes.
