Someone offered at this model in stainless INOX for a trade. Are they still being produced or were they replaced by the 96A1? I can't find them on Beretta website but Bud's has one for about $600 new. I have read where there were reports of frame cracking or other weaknesses. My inclination is to pass on it and trade for a Ruger 40 SC. But I would like to get some honest evaluation first from those who have owned this specific model before.
FYI, I have never even handled a Beretta 92, 96, or any iteration of that model before.
Thanks in advance

The Beretta 96 is no longer in the line-up. The 96A1 is currently the only .40 S&W shooter in the Beretta 9X line-up.

The Beretta 9X Series of guns are designed around the 9mm and not the .40 S&W. Over the years Beretta introduced the heavier Brigadier slide to increase longevity with the .40 S&W and the current 96A1 has an integral frame buffer to help in that area. The Beretta 92 is a nice gun, but it isn't as durable in .40 S&W configuration - Beretta 96.

If you want longer life span with a Beretta in .40 S&W, I'd expect the PX4 or the new APX to handle a long term diet of .40 S&W better than the 96.

I give the Beretta 92 FS a wholehearted endorsement. I use mine in steel knockdown competition (informal) ; I find that is points quite naturally , is very reliable with pretty much any ammunition , and recoil is an afterthought.
On top of all that the 92 is truly a classic in terms of aesthetics.
The Beretta 92 FS is a joy to shoot. I wish I had an INOX too.

That's what I think.

Excuse me - in my enthusiasm i blew past the 96 .. got carried away about the 92.
