As a first post on this forum I'd like to gain some info on the springfield socom. I need a rifle for three gun and various plinking and I'm torn between a mid-length Rock River A4 and a springfield socom 16. Most everyone in the shooting world I know has an AR but I don't know anyone with a socom/M1A so I'm unable to get any feedback on them. I know the benefits of a 223 but I'd like to hear some from the M1A 308 crowd.

Thanks All

Welcome, Webbo.

Search is your friend. There's been a lot of recent threads on this very topic.

Don't be real offended if folks don't want to replay them live for your benefit.

Enjoy!

there are a few people that frequent this forim that have them and hopefully they will chim in, but like Geek said, use the search function, it is a great tool.

Never liked mine.

I HAD one. Most overpriced gun that I have ever owned. I have PTR-91, Saiga, DSA, and DPMS in 308. Those all have their strengths and weaknesses that I can work with. I had a SOCOM and it shot so so high it ran out of elevation adjustment and was still 8 inches high. Put various optics on it and I never got the consistency a $1500 gun should have. After you shoot it a couple times you will find out that it really has a brown stock with a coat of black paint on it. I may have had a lemon but it was not good. However I hold the others that I currently own in high regard. Some people love them, I dont I stray away from SA all togther because of that gun. I must say to SA credit that I do love the SA Garand that I got a couple years ago, it is a very accurate and reliable gun.
