Tell me why I need a 1911 in a .40 caliber and why I need it in 10MM instead of .40, or why I need it in .40 instead of 10MM and why.

I have a .400 Corbon barrel I shoot sometimes and I enjoy it.

Some say a 10MM loaded to .40 S&W speeds is softer shooting. Is it? - Etc. - Etc. - Etc. I'd like lots of comparisons.

Also: Which 1911 .40 or 10MM should I consider?

Many thanks in advance. :)

ADD ON - Single stack for fun - Not for carry.

Well the only reason I'd get a 1911 in .40 is for hi-cap. Other then that go with 10mm. Now 10mm is to powerful for home defense. It'll go through the assailant and keep going and going and going. Nothing like the original .45acp.

you need a .40 1911 because the new kimber ultra in .40 is totally dreamy! :p it's the sweetest gun i've ever shot. i absolutely loved it... great trigger, amazing accuracy, pretty, faster target re-acquisition than the .45. i can't say enough positive things about it. i want one!

If you have to have a .40 go 10mm. When you need maximum power shoot full power 10mm loads. When you do not shoot medium power 10mm loads.

If I ever had the extra scratch and had nothing else to buy, I think I'd pick up a Dan Wesson Razorback in 10mm. :)

Only reason I see for a .40S&W 1911 is if you are going below a 4" barrel where I'd worry about the .45ACP retaining enough velocity for adequate penetration.

Putting the .40S&W in a 9mm sized gun is a step up, but in guns sized for .45ACP IMHO its a step back except for the sub 4" guns.

Maybe for IPSC-like games the double stack 1911s in .40 could make major and get you a couple of extra shots.

If I ever had the extra scratch and had nothing else to buy, I think I'd pick up a Dan Wesson Razorback in 10mm.
Happened to me at last weeks gun show, found a very nice Colt Delta Elite for $600 so I finally broke down to try the 10mm. Rained continuously since so I haven't got a chance to shoot it yet, oh well the spare mags I ordered from CDNN should be here by next weekend.

I want one too! I want an sti trojan in 40 short and weak to go with my trojan in 9mm. I figure loaded real light it will recoil like a 9 and put bigger holes in the ppc targets giving a couple of the near line shots that the 9 will beat you out of and the .40 is going to be easier to load down to real light levels then a 10mm with its bigger case will be.

You need a 10mm 1911 'cuz that .400 Cor-Bon ain't gonna give you the kind of ballistics with heavy bullets that you could get out of the mighty Centimeter.

I'd recommend a Dan Wesson Razorback for it's Series 70 operating system and classy good looks. However, if you are strong with the Shwartz, Kimber offers the Eclipse and Target models in 10mm.

Or, you could go for style points with a used Colt Delta Elite. I'd stay with the 10mm, because you can get .40 S&W ballistics out of it, but there's no way to get 10mm ballistics out of the Forty.

You want the Ten, you need the Ten...
