The Fact of the Texas Abduction is: If the Victim would have had a GUN she would still be Alive and the BUM would be where he belongs in the Ground.

But of Course people like Ted Kennedy would be fighting for the BUMS rights.

(Right Teddy) :fire:

Her having a gun may or may not have done anything to save her life. Don't even pretend that having a handgun equates to being secure.

It may give you an extra option, but more then a few armed folks in this world have gone down without a fight.

If this is what I think it is being aware of her surroundings would have kept her alive. Isn't the abductor on tape for a couple hours and then on tape following her to her car?

Fact: this young woman was 19 years old. Legally underaged to own or carry a handgun.
Fact: She was leaving work at WalMart. Do you really think Wally allows employees to carry at work?

So, if she had broken all of the rules, and if she had the situational awareness of someone beyond her years, she might have had a chance.

On the other hand, if someone had just walked her to her car, we would probably not be having this conversation.

IMO, this is not a RKBA issue( what happened to the dirtbag later certainly is), but rather an issue of her manager not watching out for his/her employees. Any employee, young/old/male/female, who has to walk to a remote parking area after dark should be escorted. Period.

Definitely NOT a fact. Just having a gun doesn't mean a thing except she has a gun. IF things went "right", IF she saw him before he was close enough to grab her, IF she was able to shoot him in the truck, IF.....

Would it have been adventageous if she was on alert there in the parking lot as she walked out to her truck.

The "someone" you mentioned used to be called a gentleman. Good luck finding one nearby these days.

Wal-Mart like a lot of other retail stores require there workers to park at the back of the lot and with no escort that makes them partially responsible. I hope her family retains a good lawyer.

FACT:

Due to her not having a handgun she did not even have the opportunity to try to defend herself with a weapon that would have given her the upper hand.

FACT:

Adults over 17 and under 21 are able to join the service and die, able to vote, able to drive a car and be responsible for their actions while doing so, able to take jobs with responsibility (crane operators, electricians, etc...), and to sign contracts that are legally binding. These adults should be able to use their 2nd Amendment rights to Keep and Bear Arms just like the rest of us - as long as they understand the responsibility of doing so and are held accountable for infractions or missuse of this right.

We as a nation, the whole world for that matter, have to return to a way of life where people are held accountable for their actions. Enough of the excuses that are made for peoples actions because the penalties for some action is harsh. Enough of the comments like "the jails are too full" or "8 years in prison is enough of a payment for killing someone"!! It is time that people are responsible for thier actions. You want to do the crime - be prepared to pay the price - perhaps with your life!!!

Wizmar, I think you have a little trouble distinguishing between facts and politically motivated beliefs. Just because you believe it to be true does not make it a fact.

Iscurrier, firearms are not the only solution and generally what I find is that when firearms are suggested as such, the person making the suggestion has no other training and no contingency plans. You suggest that a firearm is the only solution as you note that because she didn't have a firearm, she had no other opportunities to try to defend herself. What???

I think guns are a great solution for many problems, but they are not the only solutions and are often most effective when used in conjunction with other solutions. The same holds true for other defensive options. When used alone, singular solutions tend to limit a person's ability to respond or to adaptively respond to dynamic situations.

There are many ways in which the attack at the Walmart could have been avoided or could have been stopped and possession and application of a gun in the situation is just one way in which things may have gone better for the victim. Note that the examples I give are not intended to suggest the victim was at fault, only that the notion that a gun is the only solution is flawed reasoning.

Why was the female employee going to her car at night and unescorted? At least here in north Texas, WalMarts have parking lot security that helps see to it that employees and patrons are not alone. For that matter, she could have been escorted by another employee.
Why didn't the victim have unarmed self defense training and use it??
Why didn't the victim have pepper spray and use it?
Why didn't the victim have a knife, knife fight training, and use it?
Why didn't the victim have any other weapons along with the knowledge and ability to use them and employ them when needed?

The really horrible aspect is that WalMart actually sells many products that either are or can readily be used for self defense and if this victim had any with her, she apparently was did not or was unable to deploy them effectively.

What does seem apparent in the video is not only did the victim not deploy any sort of weapon, but showed no preparation what-so-ever for a worst case scenario such as being attacked at night.

Once he pushed her into the truck her best chance would have been a handgun. Did he knock her out cold right then? When in the time line was she shot? People forget that is was not that long ago that the legal age to by and own a handgun was 18. I think that should be the age to buy ,own and carry. That is the age you are legally an adult. I had a handgun that I carried in my car, in my purse and yes even kept it in the dorm at college. This was in 1977. I am really angry. Did she have to beg for her life? Why Oh Why was she not allowed to carry a firearm!!!!!!!!!! :cuss: If you watch the tape she did not have much time a few seconds when he come toward her. She was not way out in the remote part of the parking lot.(or that is how it appeard on the tape).

Don't even pretend that having a handgun equates to being secure.
No, having a handgun alone doesn't equate security ... however one is generally MORE secure WITH then WITHOUT.

Chances are this punk would have turned and run at the mere sight of a gun in the hands of his would be victim.

Lets all thank that armed convenience store clerk in Arizona who used his gun to stop this piece of human debris.

(Fact) for Double Naught Spy

When I used the word (Fact) I was pointing out that she New the Piece of garabage was chasing her and if she would have had a Gun, she could have turned around and said Goodbye to the Garbage. I am just pointing out that people that are so against Guns and this is one time it most likely would have saved her life. I believe that anyone has a Right to protect there Life with what ever they have. not what some LIBERAL thinks you should do?

Also you should be able to walk anywhere in this Country, Parking lots or Sidewalks or any where you wish, without a Piece of garbage bothering you.

right, IF. She didn't even notice.

wizmar, let's stipulate that you're correct in all you've said.

1. Those who live in Condition White will always be vulnerable. It's their choice, not yours nor mine.

2. There has always been, and always will be, human garbage. See #1, above.

When you add #1 and #2 together, you have the occasional makings of a tragedy.

She didn't avail herself of the many legal means of self-defense available to her (guns were, right or wrong, not one of them). That blame falls on her in part, she was an adult, and also on her parents for not preparing her for real life. And yes, on society for creating a culture where that basic preparedness is ignored if not mocked.

Also you should be able to walk anywhere in this Country, Parking lots or Sidewalks or any where you wish, without a Piece of garbage bothering you.

"bothering" or attacking?

Cause "bothering" ain't never been a shootin' offense and there is a difference between wishing away the evil in men (which is what it is to think anywhere at any time would ever be truly "safe") and, as you suggest, turning back the clock a bit to a time when the bad people had more to fear from the good than vice versa.
