I've checked out several Texas ccw sites so far with no answer black and white.

I'm going for a ccw this spring and was wondering if the city can ban me from carrying on city property. My buddy is also going too and he is a city employee. Can they ban him from carrying at work? My understanding is its public property so the can't.

???
Very confusing.

I believe they can prohibit weapons only if they have a 30.06 sign posted. Sometimes folks put up a simple "no guns" sign which I ignore because it is not legal. All they could do is ask me to leave.

A government entity cannot prohibit you from carrying in the legal sense such as by posting 30.06 signs. That being said if the city has a policy against employees having weapons on city property they can terminate you if they discover that you are armed, CHL or otherwise.

Concur with TacMedic, although I'll add that there are some city locations that *are* specifically off limits per the state laws - courthouses leap to mind, and places where a pro sporting event is taking place.

So, aside from specific exclusions, a CHL-issued member of the general public can carry on city owned and/or leased property. But if you're an employee of the city, they can fire (or otherwise discipline) you for doing the same thing, but they can't prosecute you for breaking the law.

They cannot ban one from carrying on government owned property, as long as it's not one of the otherwise prohibited places.

They (state and city governments) CAN ban employees from carrying as a condition of employment. Doing so anyway would not be a crime, again excluding the prohibited places, but they could terminate employment for doing it.

Keep in mind, Governmental Body Meetings, Judges' Offices, buildings containing a jail/prison, on the day of an election, on the day of an execution... perhaps I'm missing something... These are exclusions for either of you legally to carry on otherwise public property. Wylie, TX (the one in Collin County) tried to put up 30.06 signs at the City Hall, but wisely took them back down at the behest of a local 2nd Amendment group and a call from their lawyer. There are probably other examples, but this is one that I know for sure.
