I filled out the CHL application on the DPS website. I'm very excited. How long did it take you guys to get the packet in with your pin and all that stuff? Also, back when I was 20(7 yrs ago) I got a MIP(minor in possession of Alcohol) in college station. Will that delay anything? Man why do things have to take so long!!!

My first time it took right at 2 months to get it back. Renewals have been like 3 weeks. A lot depends on how many people are applying at the time.

Is an MIP something you get arrested for? I seriously doubt that would be an issue.

There is a point in the CHL law that if you give 2 or more substance abuse citations/violations over 4 or 5 years, you could face revocation of the license. This includes PI, DUI, or drug misdemeanors.

I only waited about 2 weeks for the initial application packet after filling it out online, and then two months after I completed the entire completed packet for the card.

I didn't fill out the form online as it was provided during the class, but it was 33 days from when they received the filled out application to when I received the license in the mail.

I sent mine in beginning of March. It was issued Monday the 2nd. I had a few bumps, so that could have something to do with my time. Any one know how long it takes them to mail it upon issue?

i filled out the form online and got the packet in a week. then i brought it to class and they gave out the same exact stuff, so i didn't even need to fill it out online. but i used the online form instead of the one provided in class because it already had some parts filled out. also, if you fill it out online, you can track the progress of your application easier. i got mine pretty fast bc i live in austin and i just dropped it off at the chl office. i made the drop on 4/2 and got it 5/15.

That MIP question is one you should have asked your instructor, in fact call his butt up and ask him now.

I got my license in just under 2 months from the time I sent in my paper work.

Its liberating when you slide that gun into your waist band / pocket / shoulder rig for the first time and walk out the door.

I received my license four months after I sent in the paperwork.

They had an issue with my reply to one of the questions and didn't bother contacting me to clear it up. After repeated emails over a couple of weeks I called. Five days later I was carrying legally.

If you do the paper work in the class its also the 140 dollars right? I better not have paid for nothing LOL.

I haven't taken the class yet. I'll take it when I get my packet in mail.

take your packet to class with you and let your instructor know that you have one. congratulations for being on your way to being licensed!

Don't sweat the MIP. As long as you're honest in your answers and any infractions you may have (DUI and other minor "misdeed") happened during the state's specified time lines, you will be good to go!

True, it's a real pain waiting..but it's worth the time.

Got to add: Got it today!!!!!! Issued on Monday, got it Friday!!!!
