Texas gets CHL reciprocity with three more states

Wow. We just got reciprocity with Idaho, and have signed the paperwork with Mississippi and Utah. Those last two states have to sign on their end, then it's official with them. Idaho's reciprocity is effective immediately, since they already signed.

That brings the total up to 22 states we have reciprocity with now, I think. Man, Attorney General Greg Abbot is on a roll. He just got reciprocity with North Carolina a few months ago as well.
 
Slowly, but surely, reciprocity between most of the states is happening and I think it is a good thing. Virginia and North Carolina finally have reciprocity, nice since my parents live in NC, now I can travel armed and legal.
 
They need to get the lead out with Colorado. I had to pony up the 20 bucks for a New Hampshire non-res so I could carry in CO last time I went.

Okay, so which is it? Did Texas get reciprocity with 3 states or just 1? Just because Texas has signed doesn't mean the others will necessarily. The offer is on the table, but the deal is not closed. Is it not exciting enough that Texas got reciprocity with another state without overhyping in the title about events that have yet to pass?

Okay, my bad - Idaho. Maybe the overhyping was necessary. Idaho is a nice state, but not one that comes up for casual conversation or vacation consideration very often down here.

I was surprised by the comment about Colorado. When I last visited, they weren't accepting anyone's CHL/CCW. I checked packing.org. I can see where there would be and will be problems as CO has no standardized permit format and permits are issued by county sheriff. My guess is that it will be quite a while before Texas will recognize Colorado without a standard format.

Nevada isn't taking part in this love-fest, as they don't recognize any other state's permits. I don't know why other states do recognize ours, but it's not many. That's the next thing we need to change here.
 
Reciprocity is steadily bringing us (CCW holders) to the point when we will have attained, by going through the back door that which should not have been necessary. THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS NATIONWIDE.

Florida has reciprocity with 27 other States according to the list published on the Dept. of Agriculture website. Are there any other States with more?

Yep, FL is pretty hard to beat. Additionally, you can apply for a non-resident permit through the mail. I received a FL permit despite never having been to FL in my adult life. I was stationed in West Texas at the time (Goodfellow AFB), got my info packet in the mail, enclosed a fingerprint card from the local cops, copy of my military ID, and $117. Got a five-year permit in the mail a couple weeks later.

I'm rather annoyed that my homestate, Washington, won't recognize FL or TX permits. Considering that both those states have more stringent requirements than WA (both require firearms training, WA doesn't), you'd think we'd come out ahead by accepting them.

Although, since standards are so low, I could see why TX and FL might not want to recognize a WA permit. Any maybe WA is unwilling to unilaterally recognize another state. Personally, even if TX or FL won't recognize us, I wish we'd recognize them. I'll go and start another thread to figure out who WA folks need to email to push to recognize TX and FL, unilateral or no.

Most of the states that don't accept FL are anti-CCW. But why are usually pro-gun states like WA, OR, NV, and WV being so stuck-up?
 
Can you imagine the confusion and disruptions if one state did not recognize another state's drivers license? Unfortunately, CCW permits and laws are a little more complicated. It is recommended that you read (and carry a copy, just in case you have to prove) the laws concerning CCW and what is considered a defensive situation in states outside of your own when CCW'ing in those states.
 
All y'all can carry in Michigan. We recognize all state's carry permits. That was a little irritating before we got shall issue but it's all good now.:D It would be nice if Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox would get reciprocity with more states.

§21-1289.25. Physical Or Deadly Force Against Intruder


A. The Legislature hereby recognizes that the citizens of the State of Oklahoma have a right to expect absolute safety within their own homes.

B. Any occupant of a dwelling is justified in using any degree of physical force, including but not limited to deadly force, against another person who has made an unlawful entry into that dwelling, and when the occupant has a reasonable belief that such other person might use any physical force, no matter how slight, against any occupant of the dwelling.

C. Any occupant of a dwelling using physical force, including but not limited to deadly force, pursuant to the provisions of subsection B of this section, shall have an affirmative defense in any criminal prosecution for an offense arising from the reasonable use of such force and shall be immune from any civil liability for injuries or death resulting from the reasonable use of such force.

D. The provisions of this section and the provisions of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act, Sections 1 through 25 of this act, shall not be construed to require any person using a pistol pursuant to the provisions of this section to be licensed in any manner.


Admin Note: There could be other sections of the Oklahoma Code that pertain to Deadly Force or Use of Force. Case Law also has a huge impact on Deadly Force laws. It is your responsibility to know the Law. (Search OK Case Law)

This is all fine and dandy.I don't know about you guys but I think CCW's should be honored in all 50 states like our Drivers licenses are.We have a Senator here in Florida tried to get that through some years back.I haven't heard anything about it in sometime. His name is Cliff Sterns . A man for the gun owner.

sweet news Geo! I'm sure the boys down in Jackson will do right and sign it post haste. Perhaps the next time I'm in Austin I will have to look for the 30.06 signs! BTW thanks for the tip on using Red's to transfer my dad's rifle, he got it last week and said they were great. When I make it back I owe ya a beer!
 
Sweet, Jimmy. Glad it worked out. They are good folks at Red's. It's close to my house so I go shoot at their range a lot. Instead of a beer, if you ever want to go to the range in Austin, I'll go with you. I've got a closet/safe full of stuff that loves the attention. :)
 
Yep yep! Indiana loves everyone's permits like El Tejon said. I just wish more states honored our permits. Such as Texas. :(
 
I was looking at our Department of Public Safety (Highway Patrol) CHL website yesterday and it looks like there a re a lot of states that we will never honor their permits. It's because those states don't use every single question that's on the Brady form when they are determining if they can issue a concealed license to an individual. So states have to at least have all the federal Brady standards when they issue a CHL for Texas to get reciprocity with them. That's too bad.

Which is why Texas REFUSES reciprocity with Indiana ... they are afraid of the thousands of armed furriners running around your state :p
 
Zun, ummm, what did you get a new job with the Texas Attorney General?:D

*Sigh* we only recognize the license while you are here. We do not give out non-resident licenses. The AG did not follow me even though I talked very slowly and used sock puppets.:banghead: Back to the drawing board!:banghead:
 
In regards to non-resident permits, would it be possible to get a few assorted non-resident permits from other states in order to get reciprocity with other states that your state does not honor? That way, you could carry basically anywhere in the USA.
