Question to the boards....

I purchased a P22 from a board member....

and he sent it like clockwork....

and then... the pawn shop 13 miles from me refused to take it and sent it back - they said they were not allowed by law to accept a shipment from "an individual"

The next day i did a day trip to another place in texas about 3 hours away... there is a gun store on the way that i always try to stop at... (they have some neat stuff from time to time) talking to that person - they were like - no its perfectly ok for a FFL to receive a firearm from an individual for x-fer to a person out of state. (ie sender was out of state... ffl receivie was IN state for me)

Called the pawn shop again... and they said "that is thier policy"

Called a different place to have it sent to (since it had been sent back)

THEY said "its thier policy" (policy to have a FFL send to a FFL ... not individual to FFL)

I looked up the FAQ on the ATF websites.... they clearly state that handguns must be shipped by carrier (fedex/ups etc) and its perfectly ok to send from individual to FFL for x-fer to person in that FFL's state....



SO... i guess my question is... are more people than me having this problem? GF says she knows a place where they will take the shipment fine. (will explore that for monday....) but why are FFL's around me refusing shipments that are OBVIOUSLY lawfull?


so confused... and my one and only online purchase has turned into a nightmare....

hehe for me AND the seller... (he's gotta be getting sick of me now)

The dealer can set his own policy (it is his business). One dealer that I know now no longer accepts shipment from non-dealers because he got caught up in a big dispute over a really high priced shotgun being transfered. As the deal soured the buyer and owner ended up going to court and the dealer had to attend court also as a witness. He told me that never no more would he go thru that again and will only send a copy of his license to another licensed dealer.

I've encountered that a lot around here. Local ATF guy may be distributing bad info but since he is in power, and gunshops are afraid of losing their FFL's they do what he says.

Story I get from several shops is basically: We have to log the gun into our books and there is no way we can be sure of who the gun is coming from. So we only do accept transfers from other FFLs.

Fortunately I found a local pawn shop that accepts them gladly, and has no problem with them whatsoever.

The Pawn shop guy is a jerk. All he needs is id of the individual photo copy will do. He is a dealer he can take in guns from anyone.

I hate to say this, but its your own fault. I cant imagine myself buying a gun and having shipped to an FFL without me making sure he/she will accept the shipment.

Don't get me wrong - it IS my fault...

I just never imagined this being a PROBLEM, heh.

Specially when i go back and do research and find tha the guy is feeding me a line of crap about how he could get in trouble w/ the law etc etc... and then when i call back after talking to another ffl etc... the line suddenly changes to "we don't accept guns from individuals"

Still you ARE correct - it IS my fault. Course - also thought that was the whole point of the fee for x-fering a gun. Since you don't have to go through a FFL for face to face x-fers in state... the whole point would be out of state transfers....

<shrug> Live and learn right? Point of the thread tho was askance... this just a Texas thing? (east?) or all over. 1st time out for me(getting a gun shipped to me via ffl...) - so all sorts of learning experiences i might have hoped to not have.
