The building had no metal detectors, but Ready said homicide detectives were reviewing tapes from the building's security cameras.

I don't get it. The writer's suggesting that all buildings should have metal detectors?

Do they think the shooter had the gun in his hand when he walked in? I think the writer is making a bit too much of the fact that there were security cameras.
