No, everything is NOT bigger in Texas.

As many of you know, Texas has rather draconian knife laws and one is not allowed to legally carry a blade over the length of 5.5â€. Double edges of any length are also disallowed.

I am in the market for a nice fixed blade general purpose knife and I am curious as to what knives my fellow THRers like that fit this legal hurdle.

Hi, tib, that's one silly law, but I can outdo that.:D The General Asssembly in Indianapolis made possession of "Chinese throwing stars" a misdemeanor (guns O.K., machine guns, fine, great, big sword, sure--but no flying ninja weapons, boy).

It has been several years (O.K. more like 10) but when I sold sporting goods in undergrad, Cold Steel used to make the "SRK" a really solid field/hunting/utility knife. I sold a bunch of them around $50.00.

El Tejon:

I have two srk's presently.

One permanently in the "go bag" [ BOB ]

The other is never that far away.

Good solid advice, tough as hell and about the right size he's looking for though I think it is a six inch blade and may be over the limit for him.

Tejon,

In Texas, anyone can legally carry the most effective weapons (rifles & shotguns) with restriction but can't carry a six inch knife for any reason????

It certainly could be worse, but it just seems so silly and arbitrary.

I'm familiar with the Cold Steels and do like them. I am probably most interested in one that pushes close the size limit.

I've noticed that Mad Dog makes 5.25" versions of several of their knives and calls them "Texas versions"... kinda funny.... or sad.
