All,

I love to deer hunt and do so each year. I would like to Varmit hunt but do not have much in the way of Varmits on my deer lease and do not know where to hunt varmits in Texas. I was wondering if you all could give me some info?

What type of varmits do you hunt?

Where do you hunt them?

Do you only hunt them during deer season if they show up around your stand/hunting area?

Do you go to hunt only them?

How much do you pay to hunt them?

I really would like to hunt them but I am not sure how much I am willing to pay to do so...Beyond enjoying the hunt of them what other benefits do you get when you hunt them?

What kind of guns do you hunt them with?

Thanks,

I am going to say there are pobably more varmints on your lease than you think. I know several guys who use electronic calls to call them in. Be very aware of your wind. I would not pay to hunt them. I really only shoots varmints when the rest day is slow and one crosses my path. I do want to try night hunting yotes once in my life though.

What part of Texas are you in? If you are are up in North central, I could turn you onto a place or two that I hunt.

Don't worry about cost. You should never have to pay to hunt varmints. I know a lot of people that sink big $$$ in decoys and E callers but that stuff is not necessary. I made a decoy out of a $1.88 plastic dove and I use only mouth calls.

Bigreno, thanks for the decoy idea. I have 3or 4 of those dove decoys. Looks awesome.

I hunt out by Dryden, so we have a little of everything show up. This is the first year we have tried calling...it is a blast. So far, my buddy's young son has missed chances at ringtail cat and grey fox. I am going to try and call something into bow range in September, when we are out there Dove hunting.

wild boar

I have shot a few yotees in Nebraska, but I would like a crack at wild pigs. I could line up a night of coyotte calling in exchange of some wild pigs.

jtayers

I do not have a place to hunt Hogs...my father in law does and I have went with him a couple of times but because the hogs are inconsistent as to where they show up I have never had a chance to shoot one. I did see quite a few the last time we went but it was already dark and there was no way we could risk taking a shot at them...their are cattle all around. Did not want to have to buy a Bull or Cow...Might have been prime? real expensive hog hunt then...:D
