Hi TimC...

I can't get over the loss of the Smokehouse. Geez.:(

Probably have to hit that similar place in Gruene.

:uhoh: I hope they haven't closed that cigar shop just off the square in New Braunfels.

It's a deal! If you've got a .22, I'll furnish the ammo.:)

Will be there the whole month of January.

What the hell is a Texican?

You know what they say..... If you have to ask......

Texican generally refers to a Texas citizen that would be happy to see the state secede from the Union

Another definition would be a native Texan with Mexican ancestry, not used quite as often.

I'm sure we can work something out, remind me closer to January.
No problem on the 22's got everything from .22lr to 22-250

my bro lives Bexar county up near Boerne county line.
been down to visit him, beutiful country. we drove down to pasadena for a pig hunt. i wouldnt mind picking up a plce or some land for future development a bit further out.

the hill country is very nice.

Elkyote-
Do tell. I haven't heard of a new gun shop. Since Boggus shut down we've been storeless save Walmart. I did hear that they are putting an academy in next to the Super Target at I35 and McCarty.

BBQ

Buck and Ozzies, about 3 miles east of 281 on 46.
You need a spoon to eat the brisket, its that tender.

There are still at least 4 good BBQ places in New Braunfels. There are also some very nice upscale restaurants that have popped up in the last few years if you decide you want some dining of the finer culinary delights.

The cigar shop in the square is still there so all is not lost. :D

And you DANG well better stay in Ohio through Nov 2nd and vote!! Win or lose OH & PA (assuming you're not a BHO fan), at least we need to make a strong showing so the jackass cannot claim a "mandate".

Also, Shawnee, I feel compelled to issue a warning to you... remember, "Everything's Bigger in Texas" and that includes ammo, so that means that the guys who have rifles marked ".243 Win" down there - these will actually chamber and fire .30-'06!! The ones marked .30-'06 shoot .375 H&H mag! :p

That's just not true, even if I do have an AR-15 that shoots .50 cal. :D

Hello, I'm thinking it would be an interesting event if all available Texas members of THR converged on New Braunfels for a long weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

I'm thinking we could devote the daylight hours to shooting and the evenings to sampling the New Braunfels cuisine. Those two events will doubtless lead to other activities...;)

Thank you for the explanation. I was thinking it was an illegal living in Texas.

Naw, Eb1, the generic name for illegals in Texas is "wet" or "wetback". Comes from "mojado", Spanish for "wet". Moja'o in Tex-Mex. Pronounced "moe-HOW".

However, once folks started sucking up most of the water from the Rio Grande, they don't have to swim all that much, any more. A ranch hand once commented to me that he and his wife had "walked" for some half-dozen years before they got their papers.

"Everything's Bigger in Texas"
My brother told me a guy from his college days was bragging about how big his dad's Texas ranch was in that: "It takes all day to drive from the ranch house to the north fence."

My brother told him, "Yeah, I have a car like that, too." :D

Gotta love Texas!

Poper

I dunno 'bout that... New Braunfels is semi-Civilized. We may all have to meet at Art Eatman's house. Another advantage to that is Art will provide all the food and drink.

;)

Sure, c'mon down. It's only about 450 miles from New Braunfels. Go to SanTone, turn right on 90; when you get to Alpine, turn left on the only paved road to the south that there is.

Take the next paved right*, and it's five miles to the GhostTown turnoff. See ya on the Porch.

Plenty to eat, if you like javelina stew.

:D, Art

* Okay, I'll be nice: It's 80 miles.

Another South Austin guy here. It seems we are pretty well represented south of the river.

What are the four? Granzin's is the only one I have been to. I am always on the lookout for good BBQ.

Shawnee,

You oughtta make the drive one day to Lockhart for Smitty's, Kreutz's, or Black's or Luling to go to City Market for a little smoked meat paradise.

I'm just of east of San Marcos in Martindale.

There is a great gun shop in San Marcos now. It's called THE BUNKER and it is on the corner of 123 and Wonder World.

They specialize in full auto, but have tons of Semi's. I use them for all my FFL transfers.

Robert gave me a super sweet deal on my PS90, and has always been friendly to me.

I can't vouch for The Bunker enough.
