And the 500,000 troops we sent to save the saudi's sorry butts from invasion back in 1990. Aside from them throwing us out of their country this year (now that they've used us and don't need immediate protection), and aside from sitting deaf and dumb while rich saudi's funnel billions of dollars to fund Al Qaeda to kill Americans...

The saudi's added that little extra turn of the screw today:

"The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (search), which pumps about a third of the world's oil, will reduce its output ceiling by 1 million barrels per day. A recent surge in oil prices had led some of the group's 11 members to suggest postponing the cut, but OPEC's most influential oil minister, Saudi Arabia's Ali Naimi (search), prevailed in his effort to press ahead. The spiking energy prices will slam the brakes onto our stumbling economic recovery.

Maybe someday we'll actually invade the right country? Those bastards are lucky I'm not in charge.... I can actually RECOGNIZE an enemy when I see one.

Simple economics. Maximize profits. Solution- Car pool/don't make unnecessary trips/cut back on Gas concumption any way you can/lower your thermostat and wear a sweater.

In short do everything you can to cut back on the use of gas and oil!

My wife still has some memorabilia from her first hubby with Desert Shield logos on it....
The Saudis have unmistakeable ties to international terrorism...

Way ahead of you. I am commuting on my Kawasaki motorcycle and the thermostat in our house in the winter never goes above 65 and we only heat and cool two rooms... the TV room where we hang out and the bedroom we sleep in. We also use an electric blanket to sit under on the couch so the room can be frosty and we don't freeze.

well, we agree on that one, bountyhunter....

Although I'd substitute "another corrupt mid-eastern state" for "the right country":D

Wouldn't it be interesting if there are plans in place for "corrective action" regarding the house of Saud?:)

I wish I could get two rooms DOWN to 65F. over here!

3 years ago a certain president foresaw an energy crunch and proposed domestic production. It was called an energy plan. Opening "public" land to drilling for the energy necessary to keep the economy rolling and to reduce foreign dependence.

People in Florida screamed "Not on my shore"
People in California (which could really use the royalties) screamed "Not on my shore"
People in Alaska said "Yes"
People in Washington D.C. said "Not in my ANWR"

Those oil and gas fields would now be producing. Think about that the next time you fill your tank.

I strongly advocate the use of "Demothermal" energy

If we squeeze Al Gore and John "Effen" Kerry hard enough, they would produce enough hot air to keep the eastern seaboard lit for several years!

Yes, and I remember the estimates every drop of oil in Alaska would feed about 10% of the US requirement for about five years. At the end of the five years, we would be right where we are now and the wildlife reserves would be ruined. Sorry: I still vote for conservatio (voluntary or coerced through taxation of gas guzzlers and tax rebates for fuel efficient cars).

Well, the last I looked, the Saudi's buy our aircraft and the parts to keep them running and I believe they send their pilots here for training. Seems to me that the prices for these goods and services could go up in proportion the rise in oil prices. Fair is fair.

Interesting story there. A while back, the govt came up with the bright idea of the FX (fighter export) program which would be an aircraft that we would sell worldwide which was way cheaper than the standard F-14 and F-16 and would have about 95% of the performance....i other words, keep the best stuff for our forces. Various aircraft companies developed planes for the FX program (at their own expense) and I recall Grumman or Northrop got the contract? One problem: the state depatment nixed it because it would look like we were treating our saudi buddies as second class citizens if we sold them an inferior plane. So, the FX program died and we continue to sell our state-of-the art hardware to bozos who can't even fly it.

And on that subject, the saudi pilots were always given front row preference at Miramar (wher the Top Gun fighter school used to be) as more of the government butt kissing of the saudis. I think our guys got "Stevie Wonder" commendations if they completed the course without having one of their dufus pilots fly into their aircraft.

nuclear energy; I saw somewhere recently where Virginia and some other place are applying to build a nuclear power plant.
Carpooling is good if you work fixed hours. I know, that personally in our household , we make too many short trips in the course of a day. The pinch hasn't hit me hard yet.
I well remember in the early 70s working in a warehouse and someone saying that a gas station down the road was selling gas and everyone clocking out to go fill up or get whatever the limit the station owner imposed. That was the advent of the four cylinder cars taking hold IIRC.
