That CT cop who wanted to kick in doors to confiscate gun...

I've also seen that several hundred CT police have signed a letter stating they will not confiscate firearms. The site I found it on was pop-up heavy, so I won't link.

The officer was not 'suspended'...

It sounds more like he is convalescing at home, and had lots of time to get into trouble on the net...

The official wording from the press release at the link in the OP is:

"Chief Halloran noted that the officer involved currently is on an extended Workers’ Compensation Leave."

Bingo. I am not going to get worked up because one cop made an idiot of himself on Facebook. We can always find one bad example in any group, be it religious, political, racial, etc… Every group has a jerk, and I refuse to judge the group on a whole by the one jerk who is loudest.

That one "bad example" in a group is enough for me. What if that bad example eventually moves into a higher position of power? What if that bad example ends up on your doorstep? I am a firm believer that there are more good police officers than bad, but bad police who abuse power do exist.

Where there is one bad example there are more. People need to understand that. This is merely one cop who got caught with his foot in his mouth. You want similar attitudes take a trip down to Miami where you'll find cops from Brooklyn and Boston and all other Mecca's of gun control. Try shooting at some of the few open air ranges in Miami with your friends and family and watch them come up to you to see your rifle when folks start to take note its an EBR.

I got told my CETME was illegal by a retired Brooklyn cop and I laughed in his face, Yankee trying to tell me what is illegal in my own state. When I explained to him they were legal he told me they ought to be and I told him only worthless Nazi scum felt that way and returned to shooting before he had a chance to put his hearing protection back on when it should have been on already.

Cops are not the pillars of a community we would like to think them to be. Some are, some are great people, some represent the best of us, but a lot of them are normal people, and then there are a lot who are psychos with inferiority complexes. So where you have one with this attitude you are bound to have a lot more. These attitudes don't happen in a vacuum.

Instances likes these are ones we must rally around to show the malice of the state, the reason to distrust those charged with protecting us who really can't do that like we can for ourselves.

Judging by the exchange, sounds like 2-3 buffoons engaged in a juvenile pissing contest.
I Wish I Had A Job Where I Screwed Hp, I Could Go On Extended Paid leave
You wish you had a job where your off-hours life and speech was scrutinized and punishable like your paying hours? Really?

guys, while the attitudes of LEO towards confiscation are certainly "on topic" here, we are still THR and if this thread starts descending into random cop bashing it will be closed quickly.

Like any other cross-section of any other population group, there are police who do not express the views of the group as a whole. There are some in favor of removing guns from the populace at large.

THEY ARE NOT THE MAJORITY & THE GREATEST NUMBER DO NOT WANT TO TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS!!!!!!!!!

Understand this.

THE POLICE, AS A GROUP, ARE NOT YOUR ENEMY!

In all the years I worked uniforms, I knew exactly one fellow officer who did not believe in the right to bear arms.
I knew several (including me) who would have resigned their jobs if ordered to begin widespread firearms confiscation.

When you see a badge advocating wholesale seizures, KEEP IN MIND HE OR SHE IS NOT REPRESENTATIONAL!

Read my post in its entirety & don't run off with one sentence to condemn an entire bunch of honest & hardworking LE with your "cops are not known to hire the brightest candidates" commentary.

This was in response to a post that's now apparently missing. :)

All the other "good" cops will cover for this guy and back him up to take the guns also. The only reason other police seem to not want to take away your guns is because they do not want to miss out on their multi million dollar pensions, that is the only reason

Yes but police can go around thinking everyone is guilty of something , that is ok. Sadly it seems to me that this attitude is prevalent among gun owners and it will eventually lead to the surrender of guns to the good police

Not defending the cop or what he said, but if you read the offending string, it was a personal pissing match online between him and a guy he supposedly knew. Nowhere does the cop state that his views are the official views of his department. If we took everything as fact that was spewed online, we'd all be super-patriots.

He is in trouble only because he violated Department Policy. He, like some of the people here, exercise their First Amendment Rights by being obnoxious. He did NOT break a law in saying anything. No more than many of us are guilty of.

The old canard of "well, he might be in charge one day" applies to any, and all, of us. Trying to condemn everyone serves no one.

He will be investigated by his Department for a policy violation. If only this would occur to some others commenting on-line.
