There is nothing like the smell of old metal, wooden stocks, cosmoline and gun oil... After being cooped up all weekend caring for a sick wife and kids (flu).. the wife felt well enough to give me a few hours in the garage....

What better way to spend the little time I got..field stripping, cleaning and oiling some guns..my 1945 Garand, 1943 K98 Mauser and a 1942 Webley markIV did the trick...3hrs of uninterrupted and blissfully quiet time...

There is nothing like spending time with the second set of loved ones. Both sets need care, it's often tough to spend with them together!

There is a certain zen to the eau of Hoppes, cosmoline, even musty old milsurps.

Call it our unique form of aromatherapy.

if we could just bottle it ... oh wait, that bottle of Hoppes #9 in my kit...

Agreed.
I'm gonna try and get the wife to dab a little Hoppes #9 on her neck when we go out for Valentine's Day. :)

Welcome aboard sir.

On a nasty, cold or rainy day, there ain't nuthin' better than some quality time with the guns, or at the reloading bench.

There's another smell that's great, too. That's the odor of burned powder in your nose, on your clothes, after a day at the rifle, pistol or skeet/trap/clays range. And the plus is, you get another day like you mentioned, cleaning them up afterwards. And the cycle continues..........

:D WOJO...post #3...made me laugh! :D I knew the Hoppe's would be in there QUICK!

I know exactly what the feeling is. Last night, when I opened the safe, I got that aroma rush. there is the smell of old guns/leather/oil combined. I have looked forward to it all my life! I even thought about getting an air freshener that smells like Hoppe,s...they make those, don't they?

In fact, I heading down to reload right after supper.

LOL ! I just cleaned the dirt, lint, and crud out of a neighbors pistol today after showing him how to disassemble it (again). Went to reach for the Hoppes and he had the bottle, getting ready to sniff it.

Finally, after 50+ years of cleaning guns, I have mastered the art of putting the cap back on the bottle of Hoppes before I begin a cleaning project. Haven't had a spill in a couple of years.

Wife is happier.

Me ? Not so much.

I do buy a lot less Hoppes though.
