The SIG P320-XTEN.
Oh there have been others that have come close, but the XTEN finally checks all my boxes without need of aftermarket upgrades.
What I've wanted out of the box:
Made in USA
Large capacity (15+1 rounds)
Excellent (night) sights
Excellent trigger
Excellent grip which points well
[edit] Under $1,000
Shortcomings:
Magazine dimensions are tight for heavy WFN rounds, but COAL adjustment has addressed this.
Reliability; the XTEN is just too new to claim success in this area just yet.
Up to now, my Croatian-made SA XDM-10 5.25 had come the closest to checking all the boxes, but gosh darn it, I dislike all those onboard nanny devices. The Gluck G20/G40 was the next closest, but I've never appreciated their triggers, or sights, or how they point. Note that I have not shot the newish M&P...but I have found a perfect S&W 10mm...the 10mm revolver I've always been waiting for, the M610.
Anyways, 124 rounds at the range went well. Hardcast FP, WFN, XTPs, Golden Sabers and TMJs. I did later discover in one of my pics one failure to return to battery, but this was a minor, unnoticed event. So far, I'm very pleased with the XTEN.
