"Aren't brightly-colored "real" guns illegal in some jurisdictions?"

I also would be concerned that the gun is red, making it look like an Airsoft Toy. A kid could pull the trigger and lead to tragedy (thinking it was an Airsoft toy). Airsoft guns used to be made of lightweight plastic, but now some of them are metal and as heavy as the real thing.

Good grief. It's just a gun. Ugly? Yes.

But it's just an ugly gun.

I wouldn't give 'em ten cents for it, but if they want to paint it, it's theirs and they can do it if they want to.

The stupid thing is that someone might mistake that for a "red gun" training simulator...

Any reason you couldn't just throw the whole thing into a bucket of mineral spirits for a couple of days?

You're assuming an under-paint metal condition that isn't severely damaged. From the looks of the photos, I'd say there's at least a fair liklihood that the metal is quite pitted, and probably has a fair amount of rust on it still. And who knows what functional condition it's in - good throat, cylinder/barrel fit is true? Not worth the gamble.

I'd offer 'em maybe $75 for a project gun, if they provided the mineral spirits and/or blasting media.

I'm oddly reminded of the guy I knew years ago, who used red and dark gray house paint to spiff up his Ford Pinto.
