The Battle For Rural America
By Sheriff Michael E. Cook

It looks like the battle in America between the urban and rural dweller is still in full swing. The fight to move the rural people from the land into an urban area is going on strong all over the west, at least. I just wonder why people can't leave others alone when they see that they are happy and living well. I guess they want to drive through the rural areas and never see any people or signs of people on the landscape.

There are a few bright spots in this battle. One is a bill in Congress that would start another Supreme Circuit Court District. It would break up the 9th into two districts. This is something that has been needed for a long time. It would help get more cases through the system faster, and with any luck, the new district wouldn't be so liberal and wouldn't be overturned so much. If you didn't know it, the 9th Circuit Court is overturned more than any other and the record shows that about 75% of their cases are overturned. I guess they never heard of that thing called the Constitution.

Another bright spot is the crime rate. I got some statistics the other day that show the murder rate and other crimes are lower in the rural areas of the nation. If you remember, the last presidential election and the red and blue map, then you know the breakdown. Well, one statistic that came out of that map is the murder rate per 100,000 people. In the blue area that represented Al Gore and the urban areas of America the rate was 11 for every 100,000 people. In the red area, which represented President Bush and the rural parts of America, the rate was 2 for every 100,000 people. These were broken down by counties, so that made it easy to study. I guess it still proves what I have always said, "An armed society is indeed a polite one, and more crime free."

One of the last bright spots about living in rural America is that you are less likely to be the target of terror. Most terrorist know that we are armed in rural America and also that we are spread out so they can't get us all at once. If you remember history, this is one reason the Nations in Europe get conquered so easy. The people all live in small or large towns or cities and travel to the country to work the land. They don't live in the rural areas so they are easy to bunch up and overcome. I don't think that's what we want here in America.

History shows that one reason we haven't been invaded by another countries army is because we are spread out and almost every home has (or used to have) firearms in it. They would lose too many people if they attempted to conquer this nation. So if they can get us all into urban areas and take our firearms, then it would be much easier.

So I can draw a conclusion from all this. Anyone in government, or in the general population who is fighting to take all the rural land from the people and also fighting to take our right to bear arms, is a spy and traitor who is attempting to help overthrow our government and take our freedoms from us. They should be treated as such. Perhaps if we started with those elected to represent us and brought charges against them, it would stop. As long as America stands strong and free there will be those who want to take that away and stop her. You see, some people just can't stand to see others enjoy themselves and prosper. Unfortunately we have a bunch of them right here in America.

I would like to see an initiative on the ballet in the next Oregon election that requires the legislature to remove and rewrite all laws on the books so that they are all Constitutional, including the budget. We also have things called "Administrative Rules" here in Oregon, and these need to be done away with as unconstitutional.

So, stand strong rural America. You have the best life style in the world and others are jealous and want to take it from you. We must stand strong together and never let that happen.

God Bless America.
Michael E. Cook, Coos County Sheriff, Retired.

You see, the real problem with the 9th circuit court is that the "justices" aren't impeached for their abject disregard for the constitution, the law, and lack of common sense.

The same with the supremes. We need a few impeachments on the grounds that they violated their oaths of office and refused to support and defend the constitution.

Now that just ain't gonna happen, not without a Libertarian Senate anyway.

Blah blah blah, it was a good article until this guy showed his wacko tendencies, treason indeed..."thoughtcrime"
= thinking UNLIKE a right wing looney.

Kindly provide the names of the justices who should be impeached and the reasons why...

This guy is from Oregon, I think. In that state, a small group of worshippers of the late Tom McCall, organized the "Thousand Friends of Oregon", and have institutionalized the urban migration, through state law. They created a state dept. of "land conservation and development (LCDC), which has to approve zoning regulations of every county.

Its all shrouded in conservation "goals" that the counties must comply with, but the overall mission is to make rural, resource-based living (farming, mining, logging), unprofitable. Their utopia would be for everyone to live in compact urban areas, using the rural resources for weekend outings only (and getting there via public transportation).

The untold story, concerns govt. purchase of land tracts for "parks", using so-called non-profit conservation groups who are really making tremendous profits, and in turn financing the same liberal politicians who enable and approve the government land grab.

During the Clinton years, Oregon land-use policy was hailed by liberal (socialist) Democrats as cutting-edge. It has now resurfaced as "smart growth" initiatives around the country.

If .gov controls the natural resources, they set the agenda for much of society. Land-use is such a boring topic, most people never pay attention. Try building a house in rural Oregon, and you'll see.

hammer4nc,

They're just trying to make sure everyone has an equal right to Nature's bounty and beautiful vistas.

Except, that is, for the people who actually, you know, own the place and live there.

Wildalaska,

Kindly provide the names of the justices who should be impeached and the reasons why...
Well, it sure wouldn't be Rehnquist, because then I could no longer make disparaging comments about the Rehnquisition...

By the way, I'm starting to grasp the whole "right wing looney" thing: that's codespeak for "Folks Wildalaska doesn't agree with", right? And you're a moderate centrist; am I still on track?

Wildalaska, don't for one moment believe that because the guy is sloppy with his use of words like "traitor", etc., that he's not talking about factual events. He is absolutely correct as to the effect of various governmental and NGO policies and actions on the lives and livelihoods of people who are third and fourth generation residents and landowners.

It is not just in the northwestern states, nor is it affecting only those who lease federal lands. I've personally observed bits and pieces of it on private lands in Texas and New Mexico.

An unintended consequence of these efforts to (using Sierra Club speak) get hoofprints off the land is that as it gets ever less profitable to run cattle, ranchers are discovering that they can make more money by selling "Five acres, five miles from town". In a few short years, wildlife/cattle habitat is impinged upon by hundreds--soon to be thousands--of rooftops. The foothills of the Rockies along hundreds of mles of I-25 are a lovely example of lessened winter habitat for mule deer and elk.

And they're winding up with less green space, after all...

Wildalaska, I ran across this example of the effect of the good sheriff's "traitors'" efforts on behalf of The Environment:

Can you possibly give any credence to the idea that these people feel betrayed by the government to which they've paid taxes? (Isn't that the modern American question? "How does it *feel*...?)

Sorta like back in the 1970s when the USDA Bossman told the farmers, "Get big, or get out." So, they borrowed money and bought more land; bumper crops meant lower prices--which meant bankruptcy. They believed their government; they did as they were told; and thus Willie Nelson started FarmAid.

Do you own a small business? If you ever do, and have over fifteen employees, may God have mercy on your happy butt, 'cause your government surely won't.

Lotsa folks out there feel betrayed. Hey, good Mr. Republican, Bob Dole, helped the Brady Bill get through Congress!

What do people who feel betrayed call those they think betrayed them?

Ah you guys are getting the picture of Wildalaska. Takes all kind to make the world go round. Most people I know(like that anecdotal data?) moved to alaska to get away from Gubbermint B.S. . When I go to hunt there they all seem right on and real right wing, except they might smoke dope, which is OK with me too , as long as its not on my watch.:D

Hey "Wild", why don't ya change your handle to "MildAlaska"?

To be honest you don't talk like anyone I've ever met from Alaska.

O well where to start...

By the way, I'm starting to grasp the whole "right wing looney" thing: that's codespeak for "Folks Wildalaska doesn't agree with", right? And you're a moderate centrist; am I still on track?

No sorry, the right wing looneys are the ones who toss around words like "traitor", the ones who talk about shooting cops fro treason, who call the ATF agents jackbooted thugs, and so on and son on, and I surely dont agree with that...do you?

And I am a moderarte centrist, guess who carries more weight when political decisions are being made, people of my type or the loonies of the left and right...

Cant say that I disagree with your analysis, and note the language of my original post: "it was a good article until this guy showed his wacko tendencies...."

I have no difficulty with the premise that the wacko environmentalists are using the allies, witting or unwitting, to either forestall development or deprive people by practice or policy of rights to private property. I do have a problem with destroying good ideas with the language of the loonies.

And people who feel betrayed, rather than working on hatred, revange or rhetoric, should be working harder and harder to get the "masses in the middle" to change the status quo. Calling people traitors gains nothing.

Guess either of you dont know much about Alaska or Alaskans do you..maybe we are just a bit more civil and reasonable..probably has to do with the freedom we have up here...or the fact that we are a bit more neighborly....

who call the ATF agents jackbooted thugs

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, leaves duck droppings everywhere it goes then it is usually a duck.

What do YOU call people who throw pregnant women against walls so forcefully they miscarry and stomp cats to death? Or burst in on deadly purveyors of cap and ball pistols leaving them paralyzed? Dedicated agents doing a difficult job with inadequate thanks and appreciation? Oh, OK.

Of course there arte bad apples in every bunch. To characterize every member of an organization based on the actions of the few doesnt pass muster.

Using your analysis the entire pro gun movement are murderers of innocenets (we had Tim McVeigh), the US Armed Forces are murderers (Wm Calley), all Air Force Pilots are incompetant boobs (the two on trial now)..in fact, our whole nation is nothing more than aggressive, jackbooted baby killers (Dresden, Vietnam, Native Americans)..

Sorry unless an entire regime or agency is criminal from top to bottom (Nazis, CPSU) I prefer to withhold epithets that can easily be hurled back at the hurler.

Our goal is to be better than our enemies..Ghandi smiled as they beat him, and Jesus gave his life for among others, his enemies, and in the struggle for justice the winners are the ones who take the high moral ground...

Lets leave the rascsim, the rhetoric and the name calling to the other side..we are better.

Wild you fit in a category of fishing used for walleye, marlin, sailfish, and others. Selfimportance is a terrible thing to promote and quite iritating. Are you running for congress?

On another thread I asked Wild what part of California he was from. Now I'm REALLY curious!

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No really man, are you SURE you didn't move up here from California?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And your point is???

Wildalaska,

To characterize every member of an organization based on the actions of the few doesnt pass muster.

Kinda like the way you were talking about the Birchers a few threads over?

It's okay, Wildalaska; we all do it. ;)

The foothills of the Rockies along hundreds of mles of I-25 are a lovely example of lessened winter habitat for mule deer and elk.
I'll second that, as someone who lives here. I don't think I've ever spotted an elk or a mulie from the car while driving I-25, and I've driven the length of it within the state of Colorado on a number of occasions.

I just love how "public lands" are so wide open to the "public" for use... :fire:

The nice thing about BB's is that if you let some people talk long enough you don't have to argue with each biased ad hom they produce anymore. They dig their own grave.

Friends, I'm getting tired of having to remind people of the Rules of Conduct of The High Road. If we disagree with what someone is saying, we counter-attack the argument, not the person making the argument. Personal attacks, denigration, name-calling and finger-pointing are out of place on this forum. If someone has an opinion that differs from your own, that's their right, and you should recognize and respect that right, just as they should do the same for you and your own opinions.

Another thing - it really helps if you take a bit more time to understand what the other person is saying before you "counter-attack". There have been a couple of examples in this thread, where the counter-arguments actually have nothing to do with what the original statement said. Please, folks, remember the old adage: "Think twice, post once, then edit!"

Closing this thread before things get out of hand.
