Woohooo! Today I went down to a pretty good gun shop here in S. Florida, Delray Shooting Center, after calling ahead to see if they had what I wanted. See, right after September 13, 2004 (you know what happened that day) I went 'round to a more proximate shop asking about full-capacity Glock 22 magazines to use in my G27. I was told at the time that they would be some months in the coming, but that they'd be there eventually. When I went back to that shop weeks later (Rayguns in West Palm Beach), I was saddened to find it had closed down. So time went by and since I haven't been shooting much really I didn't think much about it, but tucked in the back of my mind was the desire for a pair of nice 15-rounders for range use and as a spare in my CCW pack.

So I found out that Delray Shooting Center had them in stock and I went down there today to pick them up.

Remember when they were running for upwards of about $150 because they had to be pre-ban manufacture? Well, granted I coulda probably found them somewhere for less than this, but I was happy to pay $29.95 each for two of them! So now I'm all set. (I have plenty of 30-round AR mags from well before the ban. )

Did any of you go running out to buy post-post ban magazines after 9/13?

Blue skies,
-Jeffrey

No but when I pickup a few handguns later this year, I would like to use the STANDERD magazines they were designed for.

I almost bought two, brand new, standard (hi) capacity drop-free magazines for my Glock 19 at a gun show last weekend for $19 each. I say almost because the show was closing (I mean the announcer was politely telling people to get the heck out NOW), I was out of cash (did too much buying elsewhere before I stumbled across him) the seller didn't accept debit or credit cards, and I'd left my checkbook in the truck. :banghead:

They still allow gun shows in Maryland?!

Sorry you didn't get your purchase done.

Oh, in response to my query of whether the ones I bought are drop-free mags, the guy at this shop told me that Glock hasn't made non-drop-free magazines in 10 years.

I don't know if that's true or not, but he mentioned something about the shape of the mag near the top would be rounded somehow in a non-drop-free. I always thought an easy way to tell was the metal sleeve inside the mag. Is that not a guaranteed earmark of a drop-free? I thought it was. I thought the metal sleeve was what kept the loaded magazine from bulging and sticking slightly inside the mag well.

I had plenty of full cap. pistol mags. I'm slowly updating my AR mags to new. The units I have are a bit beat. Would like to get a beta mag for it when the price drops a bit below MSRP.

So I guess I didn't run out but are doing it as the opportunity presents itself :)

You're probably right. The used (but mint condition) Glock 19 I purchased last summer was manufactured in October of 1992 and neither of the original magazines are drop free - you have to drag those puppies out.

I really scored a good one with that purchase, because the pistol shows absolutely no evidence of having been fired much. Indeed, the magazine springs are still so fresh that you have to white-tip the last five rounds in with sore fingers. I'd be surprised if the previous owner put more than 400 rounds through it, if that.

I actually don't have any pistols that would have 10+ capacity anyways.

I already had Big Mags for my AR.

I did buy a 75 round drum for my WASR though.

Tosses 15 round Glock mag aside
*Crocodile Dundee voice* That ain't a Hi-Cap mag.
*hefts 75 round drum*
THIS is a Hi Cap Mag!!

LOL! I remember a friend's brother-in-law had a Mini-14 with some 90 or 100 round helical magazine. That thing was bordering on ridiculous, but sh*t I would have one myself if I had that rifle -- no point in denying myself the fun! Come to think of it, does anyone make that kind of thing for the AR-15? I've never checked.

Which, if any, gun manufacturers are continuing to sell neutered magazines with their new guns? The rationale for doing that would be simple: it allows sales to CA and a few other places without separating guns into "low-cap mags" and "normal-cap mags" piles before shipping.

It's also happened before. One or two states demand mag disconnects, loaded chamber indicators, mag well locks, etc., and a few gun manufacturers decide to introduce those features on all their guns.

I will guarantee one thing. If the anti-gun gang ever get another chance to ban guns, there will be no "sunset" clause. They have been crying and whining and saying that the next ban will be permanent, will include all handguns and semi-auto long guns and will ban all transfer and inheritance forever. (No ban on possession, though. That way John Kerry and company can keep saying they "won't take away your guns."

Jim, they'll try. Keep writing those letters, folks. Make sure that your legislators remember -- let's work toward the day when "gun control" translates in every politician's mind to "I want to look for a job in the private sector."
