The Boonie Hat vs Cap debate

"People by decals of carbon fiber images in which to cover their dashboards, car rims, etc. I am surprised nobody has done it to their gun yet." Oh but they have. I've seen some Glocks with it, one of those P22s, and I think Marlin even ships one from the factory now.

My problem with boonie hats is that they are a little bit goofy looking if you wear a hat all day, every day as I do.

Yeah, they don't really fall into urban fashion. But anywhere I would spend a significant time in the sun I would choose a boonie hat over a baseball cap without doubt. Baseball caps look goon 'n all, but are pretty useless when you seek good protection from the elements.

I am right there with you. Fishing, a long day shooting in the summer, or a day at the lake all require a boonie. Past that, the ol' ball cap goes on.

I tell you right now those things will NOT fit my cranium. None of the modern caps will. People don't seem to understand how big a cranium can get. Mine is 26" in diameter owing to an occipital bun.
My dad's is even larger.

So thats what an ivy cap is!

Never could see the function in those. Of course I'm in Texas and if there is no brim then it's not a cap much less a hat. I love boonie hats as they keep sun AND rain out of your eyes.

The sun here will eat you alive so that is why you never see those here.

Cosmo, you do have a big grape. If your looking for a ballcap, you need look no further than this company:

They have hats that fit up to 29 inch size melons, so you should be good to go. It's also worth noting that they sell a variety of hats other than ballcaps, to include bike helmets!

Quit wearing ball caps when I grew up. Near as I can remember, that was about age 6. With my fat head, they made me look like Beaver Clever on prednisone.

Been wearing boonies since my 'vacation' in SE asia. For more formal occassions, I like the toppers from Tonto Rim and Miller Hats.

And, as mentioned, the skin cancer on ears, etc, make any hat a necessity.

I work inside all day long, so a fitted, 100% cotton, ball cap with no logos serves as my head gear. Tan or black.

When I work outside, the tan 100% cotton boonie cap comes out and rules the day.

That hat belongs on the dashboard of the mall ninja's highly customized purple Hummer H2 with extra large spinner rims, chromed front to back without a scratch on it.

It would also look great next to a Glock with a red dot scope AND a laser grip system.
