According to the referenced news story, 40% of the new gun owners are women. I can tell you that my Grand daughter is one of them. If anecdotal evidence is of any validity, women seem to be buying mostly .38 special revolvers for self defense. And the rationale is a good one. A hammerless DAO .38 can easily be fired from within a holster purse without any issues. Having to charge a slide and moving parts tend to get caught otherwise.
As for minorities, I'm all for law abiding citizens being armed and protecting their communities. I have seen a big uptick of minorities at gun shows.
I do not believe it is racist at all to consider the murder and crime demographics. The unbiased information is readily available on the internet and has no racist overtones at all. The facts are that African Americans and Hispanics are responsible for most gun violence in America. That is not racist. It's fact.
Another fact is that the high profile "White Madman" with an assault rifle is responsible for less than 6% of all murder in America.

Another "myth", that gun ownership promotes violence is completely blown out by the fact that minorities own the least amount of guns, yet have the highest death and crime rate with guns! The group with the MOST guns has the least gun violence. Hardly a day goes by that you don't read about some gang banger spraying a party and killing kids and women. But this doesn't get the headlines.
It would appear illogical to conclude that those 8 million guns were purchased because of what happened Jan 6. More likely because of what happened in New York, Portland, and many other cities over the past year.
A criminal, gang banger or thug will go to the path of least resistance. They go where there are NO guns.
