Not the basement of a house, but one of the machine shops on my campus. The machinist let me have this cause he needs to clean up the place and has no use for it. I immediately knew what it was, although I'm not sure exactly what it goes to. It looks and measures to be a 20 mm muzzle brake. It was sitting on the lathe which was purchased from the Navy after the battleship it was on was decomissioned. The machinist said it's been sitting there for at least 15 years.

22 minutes before somebody identifies an obscure piece of equipment.

A THR record?

This site is like Rainman when it comes to guns
Lahti...yeah yeah definitely Lahti :D

What a cool find. Did the Navy ever use those? I wonder if a sailor had a privately owned one back before they regulated the heck out of things bigger than .50"

Had I seen this thread earlier, I could have instantly ID'd that too. Most of us can, really. :D

One day I'll own one of those Lathis.

Yeah, I saw it, picked it up and knew it was a 20mm Muzzle brake, didn't know it was from the Lahti. If only I could afford one...*sigh*

Didnt bowman shoot the Black Helicopters With one of those?

Nice job, I'd would've never known.

I hate to announce myself a noob, but yep, I noobed on this one.

UC=Solothurn 20mm

Definitely a Lahti brake...someone out there's got one hell of a sore shoulder I'm sure :p

Wouldn't it be interesting to know where it came from?

THR is so awesome! You got a Doohickey and don't know what it's for? Well hell, you just post a pic and shazzam; somebody here will know what it's for, when it was made, who made it, finish/color options, where a better one is available, and about how much it'll cost you in dollars, piasters, and drachma's.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Al Gore for inventing the Internet!
THR rocks. I love this place!

So now that I have that brake...does that mean I have to get a 20mm rifle? Hmm...

I have to watch my post count...see if I can think up something good for 1000.

Get your Lahtis here.

Hi VARifleman

If you want one of these to go with your muzzle brake, look here:

or
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=96882958

if you want a Mauser version try this one:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=97252062

and if you live in a state that only wants you to have antiques this will do the job:

This type of gun is great to take to the range, it just makes people put their mouse guns under the bench.  :D

For those who don't remember, before 1968, and for well under $100, you could buy either a 20mm Lahti or a .55 Boys through the mail. Those Who Know Better changed that in 1968, because apparently, the vast majority of people who they, er, "represented," obviously and strongly desired the Gun Control Act of 1968. So now it's the law. Respect the law or move to China. We can't have anarchy, now, can we? Because then only the powerful would be in charge!

Well, I'd heard of the Lahti 20mm rifle before, but this was the first time I've seen a picture of one.

Wow. I want one!!!

So...who wants to help me overturn the 1968 Gun Control Act? Maybe we can keep on going and lose the National Firearms Act, too. Not like I haven't been trying before this, but now I have an inspiration!

So, was it the 1968 GCA that restricted guns with a bore bigger than .50? I thought that went clear back to the NFA, but I wasn't sure.
