Ask anything you want....Alaska is a big place, Im in the Arctic, on Kobuk River.
I hunt for a liveing, though its been trees lately, 'cause its cold now....and stove oil is 7.85$ a gallon.
Every thing is Bigger in Alaska, Bears, Bills, and Bullets...~LOL!~

Write all you want, I have time every two or three days to sit a spell.:D

I vote 30-06, you can kill anything in North America without the expense
and recoil of a magnum. The shorter version, the .308 is also good but lacks
factory loaded bullets over 180 grains and has slightly less velocity. Why buy less? The 06 has a slight edge for bear and larger than deer game. I doubt you'll find any difference in accuracy or effectiveness in a deer hunting rifle. Factory ammo is plentiful for both and is there is plenty of surplus ammo for both. The 30-06 is the most popular deer round for good reason. But nothing wrong about any of the others mentioned. But if you in the middle of a rural area and need ammo, 30-06 will be in any store or gas station that sells
ammo.

Hands down a Remington 742 Woodsmaster in either .308 or .30-06....Or If you REALLY want something that will stop something dead in it's tracks than a 7mm of some sort.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I like the 742 but would recommend a newer version that is less apt to have a problem with the operating rod bind in the reciever. I've had one do that.
Buy new or test fire it first. That said I love my old 742 BDL in 06.

Since 1893 the 7x57 has been great for game up to elk. For Elk
since 1912 it has been hard to find something that 375 H&H won't kill/////
