The Fallacy of God Given Rights...

Folks are fond of saying that certain rights are God given, such as the our Bill of Rights. Personally I believe in God and I also believe humans have certain rights.
So what! The only guarantor of our rights are ourselves and our fellow citizens. The reality is that we really only have the rights that we insist on. If you push this concept very far you come to the realization that your life would be in jeapordy if you did not relinquish some or most of those ‘rights’ on a daily basis.
There is a lot of tough talk about what someone would do if the government came to take our guns. I doubt I would resist to the point of killing law enforcement to keep my guns. We have allowed our govt. to decide what is a right and what is not. The Bill of Rights is just a piece of paper, and how I wish that were not true. President Thomas Jefferson understood this.

they are still given by god, whether others usurp them for themselves or not, and whether we delegate their preservation to others or not.

Look at the rest of the animal kingdom. Most all of God’s creatures have some way to defend themselves. We are no different, except we have given that up for others to worry about.
