Confirmed, the first plane load of CZ P-09s has landed, and are already shipping out. As one employee noted, "We don't really need shelves anymore"...

I'm intrigued by the P-09.

It seems as if it occupies the same spot in the line-up as the SP-01 Phantom that you own. The Phantom seemed to be the better of the two polymer offerings from CZ, at least initially with the problems the CZ P-07 had. I would have thought we'd see a compact Phantom before a we'd see full size version of the P-07, which the P-09 seems to be.

Through your "CZ crystal ball", do you see the SP-01 Phantom sticking around or will the P-09 squeeze it out of the line-up?

I have been impressed by the reports you've given us of your Phantom. I've handled them a few times and they feel less-polymer gun than the other polymer guns on the market. Something I'd consider picking up. I guess I'd be a little disappointed to buy a Phantom now, and have it dropped from the line-up in the near future.

I don't see the Phantom going anywhere, since it not only was picked up as a major long term military sidearm for the Czech Republic, but it's popularity here and elsewhere. It IS an awesome handgun, isn't it? ;)
The teething issues of the P-07 were handled a while ago, and the models coming in now are as perfect as man can make them, plus all the lessons learned from the P-07 were applied to the P-09.
You are right, though, I would like to see the CZ SP-01 Spirit, the Compact version of the Phantom. ;) No, that's not an official name, just made it up on the spot.

It DOES seem odd that they would make something rather similar to the SP-01 Phantom [something they already had out there]. I have seen and held the Phantom and think it felt pretty much like the P-07. Both are SA/DA. Not sure why they would make a full sized pistol [P-09]. The only difference is the 19+1 of the P-09 compared to the 18+1 of the Phantom.

I'm still interested in the P-09 and will probably get one over the Phantom. Tough choice, though.

I like the P-07. I don't own one, but if I was in the market for a semi-compact polymer 9MM, that is what I'd buy. However, my PCR fills that role nicely.

Recently, I did get the chance to shoot the polymer framed SP-01 Phantom, next to the steel framed SP-01 Shadow, and still preferred the steel framed SP-01 over the polymer. The grip just felt better to me, and the gun wasn't top heavy. That being said, the polymer framed Phantom SHOT GREAT, and I would not hesitate to own or carry one.

Pilot, . . . I own a very nicely modified SP-01 and wondered how the Phantom would be different. I was certain that it would be lighter [of course], . . . and can understand the "top heavy" characteristic. Which one did you feel had the best "felt recoil"? Some say "the weight of a steel frame handles it better", but others say "the flex of a polymer frame does". Opinions?

Anyway, the 19+1 looks pretty tempting. The only other gun with that capacity is the full size XDM pistols, . . . but I am not a huge fan of them.

Orion,

I prefer the recoil impulse of the all steel SP-01 Shadow over the polymer framed Phantom. Not that the recoil on the Shadow was anything horrible, in fact felt recoil on both was very light, I just liked the Shadow a bit better.
