............what was it & how'd you feel?

it was a Marksman M16 bb gun, and I felt like Rambo.

when I got older,
it was a Glock 17 and I felt nervous cause' I didn't know what to expect. The range was quiet and everyone else seemed to be regulars. But after I saw my target and mentally abused myself, I look at the other folk's targets, and I either had beginners luck or they were just trying to make me feel good.

needless to say I took advice from the various RAs and improved my overall marksmanship, and now I just practice for fun. I'm not perfect, but I'd trust my shots in a SD situation. I'd really like to try comp shooting, but I'm too poor:(

Remi 1100 shotgun... about 12 years old. For some reason I thought it was gonna blow my shoulder off, it didn't. Guess my brother was just trying to scare me.

Stevens .22 bolt action single shot. I'd just turned 8. Also tried my uncles 12 ga. Browning. Didn't do that again for 3 years, and very little afterwards. Darn thing weighed a ton and kicked like a mule. Used it for dove and quail when I got older. Nice shotgun.

Boy Scout camp one summer in Maine- first a old BB gun then the real firepower.... a .22. I didn't shoot a gun for about the next 20 years. then after getting married I got a HD shotgun, and the bug bit me.

Um..... My great grand-dad's single shot 22 remmington rolling block with a horribly pitted bore, in my basement when the parents were out..... Turns out it had no trouble with penetrating the 2x6 I shot at, along with the wall and shelves behind.... Extracting the cartridge took pliers (due to pitted bore)....

*sigh*.... Young and stupid.

First guns I ever fired were bb guns. Pistols and rifles. When I was thirteen or so I fired a shotgun shooting clays. I loved it and was nothing but excited before, during and after. Have been in love with shotguns ever since. My love of other guns has grown but my first love was a 12 gauge.

First gun I shot was a little .22 bolt action. After that I wanted to shoot dad's .45

I was about five years old so I needed a LOT of help, but I loved it and I've been hooked ever since.

My first shot was some bolt action .22 my uncle had. I was about 8 years old I think. I had several BB and pellet guns after that in various makes, models and types.

When I was 16 my best friend had a .22 hornet pistol with scope and I had a single shot 16 gauge shotgun (no idea what brand of either) and we used to have a blast shooting them.

M1 Carbine. I was around 3 or 4 years old. My dad had to hold me and the rifle up. I aimed and pulled the trigger. I've been a Mil-Surp junkie ever since.:D

The first gun I remember shooting is my Dad's Dan Wesson .357 Mag at about 5. He knelt down behind me and wrapped his hands around mine and let me aim and pull the trigger. I was pretty much hooked after that. Then I got my first Daisy BB gun at 7 and was outside with it almost everyday after I got home from school. I upgraded a few times, but still went outside with guns all the time after school instead of watching TV.

12 gauge double barrel, both barrels at once at the tender age of 11. Neighbor thought it would be funny. Been addicted ever sense............

BB gun to start with 6-7years old. First "Real" gun-Model 63 Win. with my Dad at 9 or 10. That was my Uncle"s 63==Wish I had it now...:what:

New Years party when I was about 3. My dad and his friends were shooting off of the back porch. Someone thought I should be involved. My dad helped support the 12 gauge Browning while I pulled the trigger. I ended up with a knot on my head, my dad got yelled at by my mom.

15 years old while camping with my parents, as well as my sister and her fiancee and a couple of their friends. They brought along their little collection to go shooting and I tried it out. Very first thing I shot was my sister's little .380 pistol. I have no idea what the brand was. Despite the warnings, I wasn't careful to keep my thumb out of the way and got knicked by the slide. I just kept shooting though and had fun. I then tried out her fiancee's .40 Ruger pistol and his .22 bolt action. All fun indeed. Then I got to try out their friend's M1 .30 carbine with some 30 round mags. Needless to say I didn't care to shoot any of the others again. :D

Shooting a 32oz Pepsi bottle at 10-15 yards I hit the thing about a dozen times in a row, rapid fire. Several of the shots while the bottle was still a few feet off the ground. Not exactly Annie Oakley I know, but it sure felt good at the time. Just thinking about that makes me hanker for an M1 .30.

About age 3 or 4, my oldest brother taught me to shoot his Daisy Winchester 1894 in the back yard. I still remember the black eye I got from the hammer hitting under my eye. He still has that gun. I wish I had bought one when Daisy re-introduced them a year or so ago. Anyone have one they'd care to part with?

I'll never forget the first time I shot a gun. The first handgun I ever shot, I want to say I was 15 and it was on 4th of July. My mom's friend was having a barbecue and he was sort of my "father figure" so we went to go eat over their house. Any how, it was nearing maybe 7:30 so people were starting to light their fireworks and stuff.

He takes me to his pickup truck and says "You ever shot a gun before?" I looked at him with a "Nah, why?" kinda look, and then he pulls a Beretta 92 out from behind the back seat of his truck and unholstered it. I was told "Never point it at anything you don't want to kill, never sweep anyone with the barrel, keep your finger off the trigger, and hold the gun tight.. And don't "limp wrist it."

(BTW, he lived on a dead end street so right across the street was like forest land.)

I concentrated the front sight on a tree stump, and he adjusted my aim slightly and told me to squeeze it when I was ready. Squeezed the trigger, and BAM! It felt AMAZING. I didn't want to give it back, LOL. After he took it, he emptied the rest of the mag into the tree stump, put in a new mag and put it back in his truck.

We went back to the backyard where everyone was and everyone but one person knew what had happened. My mom looked at me, and said

"........Did you shoot a gun?" :scrutiny:
And I got the BIGGEST grin on my face :D :D :D

It's true. "A mother knows her son..."

The first rifle I ever fired was an WASR 10/63 (AK-47) and I was around the same age. I swear it took me literally 10 minutes to get up the nerve to shoot it. I was sitting at the bench looking down the sights and my heart was racing. I'm fondling the trigger thinking the recoil is going to be some devastating "knock you off of your chair" force despite what I had seen of them. I get up the nerve to pull the trigger and I realize it's on safety.

I take the safety off, pull the trigger, and felt like a new person. It was my first rifle, as well. I had a "Navy Country Boy .50 Cal" muzzle loader, I never got to fire it.

Sorry for the Wall-O'-Text guys but you know how it is with a boy and his first gun memories ;)

mine was when i was maybe around 6-7 at pease airforce in NH and they had a M60 with blanks set up, full auto, i still have some of those blanks.

i never really got hooked till i was in 8th grade. fired a .22 at a 4H club and have been hooked since. now i'm a junior with a savage 111 in 30-06, and a mosin nagant

+1, although I was about 10 or 11. Next was a .22 bolt-action. First handgun was a Glock 27 (although looking back, I probably should've shot something a bit milder).

A Red Ryder BB gun was my first......................

but my 1st real memory of shooting was when my dad thought I was ready to try his side-by-side 12 ga. - at age 8. It was very memerable because I was sorta ready for the recoil after watching my older brother get knocked on his butt. I remained standing and was pretty darned proud of that.:p

The first time I fired a gun........... A bb gun and loved it. Then a 22 loved that also. Then the shotgun that knocked my shouder off.

JWF III I can relate with ya. Same as me but with my gramps helping me and a 10 rd mag. One of my most cherished possessions is that old abused Underwood. Still hooked for life about 50 years later.:D
