Between black coffee, and shiftn' gears
I gave away a Southern Belle to a Good Ole Southern Boy.

I was quite honored to be asked to do so.
I kept my promise to her late grandpa and daddy.

Her grandpa back in the day, went head over hills for a gal and when she said she would marry him, he decided to do something special.

Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

He got a Colt 1911 with that deep dark bluing, and decided to "make it special".

14 yellow gold guide rod plug with a diamond set.
Then he decided this special GI Guide Rod Plug, needed a special way to be kept up with.
So while he gave that some thought, he took 14 yellow gold stock, and turned a 45ACP Hollowpoint and set a dia into the Hollowpoint.

Idea hit him looking at metal container to hold stamps...
He made a 14 yellow gold cube.

The ctg sits in this, exposing the diamond , as so does the plug.
Just two sides.

He liked to mess with wood as well so he fashioned a box, like magicians use.
The sides pull down.
It is a handsome wood box, with its 14k yellow gold feet and when one lifts the 14k yellow gold handle and turn it 1/4 turn, the sides fall down to expose that cube, with a diamond showing on top, and one side.

Grandma, was absolutely shocked to receive the gun, then could not believe the "accessories".

Grandpa bought 3 Colt 1911s with serial numbers running consecutive.
He made three of these cubes, plugs and ctgs exactly alike.
Grandma and he only had one child, a daughter.
That daughter only had one child, a daughter.

Justice of Peace ceremony in a relaxed , casual setting.
Grandma has a small wedding at house.
Mom had a one too.
Granddaughter kept the family tradition.

Oh these ladies have been bridesmaids, and been in weddings with friends, just they would not rather spend all that money on a wedding.
They have tried to suggest to other ladies, that if daddy offers money to elope, take the money and elope.
Some ladies looking back, wish that had taken that advice.

Grandma presented her gift the night before to granddaughter.
Mom was present.

Granddaughter got married with that Colt, with a diamond plug, her mom wore her gun, and I was asked to wear grandma's gun.

Grandma was not unarmed. She is the Grandma...
She had her Colt Detective Special, with deep bluing, 14 k yellow gold enhanced front sight, Ivory stock with with a diamond on each stock, set in a 14 k yellow gold bezel setting.

Yes, the 1911s will run with the diamond plug, as will the Colt Detective Special with its "accessories".

These look great with a spread of BBQ and Catfish.
Wedding gun, BBQ Gun, Catfish Gun...we do stuff different in the South.

I kept my promises again.

Best wishes you two...
Adopted Uncle Steve

Back in the day when folks did for themselves and did not run around scared, waiting for the Govmint' to save them from themselves.

Great story !
