Don't tell me your just a hunter and it won't affect you- that's bull.

The DoD has been ordered to turn once used ammo into scrap instead of selling it to ammunition manufactures.
This is an assault on ALL ammuntion and will greatly increase the price of all ammo- even if your just a skeet/trap shooter.
Please see this message on the Georgia Arms website.

NOW IS THE time you make your senators and representatives aware of your position.
Please don't sit on this one.
Here is a copy of the letter I've sent to my elected officials:

I was recently made aware that the Department of Defense has been ordered to destroy all once used brass, (ammunition cartridges) and sell the brass as scrap. Prior to this order the U.S. Government sold this as surplus ammunition cartridges to ammunition manufactures at a profit and now is receiving 80% less in revenue due to this order. The need for tax revenue in our current economic situation makes this order completely senseless. My tax dollars were used to pay for this brass to begin with and I consider this an outrage. This will even raise the cost of ammunition that our military will have to buy. If that’s not insulting enough I have also found out that China is the largest importer of our scrap brass.

It’s obvious that this is nothing less than an assault on the 2nd Amendment by pricing the individual out of shooting and this assault on the 2nd Amendment is being done in a circuitous fashion of going around our elected officials to effectively remove our constitutional rights.

As my elected official I expect that this will be vigorously addressed and I will be watching your actions on this matter closely.

Please call your Representative and Senator and send a letter by snail mail- it does make a difference.

This is exactly the kind of thing I expected following last Novembers election. Imposing a new AWB involves lots of political capital and potential house losses and because of this it may never come to pass, but there are literally thousands of little ways that they can and will turn the screws on us to make our lives as shooters more and more difficult and expensive.

Hmm, I thought the Dems cared about recycling. Shows what hypocrites they are. I know this is an attempt to keep ammo out of our hands. I hope they realize how this will hurt our economy, people that were buying American made ammo will have to resort to buying ammo from (Russia, a few others?):barf::mad::fire::cuss::banghead:

This is nothing new.

Even the CMP was unable to get U.S. surplus ammo, starting back when Slick Willie was president.

There has been no real surplus U.S. ammo released for years now.

There were "de-mil the empty brass" orders starting years ago too.

Even surplus ammo cans are few & far between any more.

This seems to be aimed directly at recreational and competitive target shooters, BTW.

It's hard to imagine that even the most rabid anti could see this as targeted at criminal misuse of firearms.

Time to gather our pitchforks.....err...I mean embrace our 2nd ammendment? I am really getting sick of the government doing all this stuff. Isn't this technically socialism? (telling businesses they cannot buy brass)

ArmedBear,

To the "Anti" basically all guns are intended for criminal misuse. Make no mistake about it, they are out to remove all guns from everyone that is not current LE or current Military.

Also remember that our Founding Fathers where conducting criminal misuse of their firearms when they fought the government of the British back 200+ years ago over what is now negilible taxes and unfair trade rules and what was going to be gun control.

(Hmmm... sounds kinda like today's world)

Stop complaining and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

This is what I sent to my legislators this one is for the state, The federal was similar... (plagerized from Reloaders Nest)

Dear XXXXX XXXXXX:

It has come to my attention that the Department of Defense has issued a directive that all expended military brass (fired cases) will now be shredded and sold for scrap material, rather than resold by Government Liquidators LLC to the civilian market for remanufacture.

You may not be aware of it, but there is a severe shortage of ammunition available for sale to the public across the country, causing problems for shooters, hunters, and reloaders everywhere.

Now, apparently the current administration, realizing they cannot move against private firearms ownership since the landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in the Washington D.C./Heller case, has made their move in another way.

By cutting off the resale of expended military ammunition to remanufacturers, they have put a stranglehold on the nation's ammunition supply.

Further, they have reduced the return to the government on expended brass by 80%. What was sold for remanufacturer at a fair return to the government, will now cost the taxpayers untold sums of money as the cost of scrap brass is far below the price per pound for expended military ammunition.

In addition, the use of remanufactured ammunition is a huge asset to law enforcement agencies across the country who buy millions of rounds of reloaded ammunition a year from these manufacturers for practice rounds.

With this market gone, law enforcement will no longer be able to purchase inexpensive reloaded ammunition, and with the continuing combat status of military forces across the Middle East, original manufacturers of new ammunition are turning out everything they can make to the government, thus exacerbating the shortage of new ammunition in both the civilian and law enforcement market.

Lastly, in these harsh economic times, does it not strike you as cold and calculating that the current administration has no compunction against ruining an industry that employs thousands of American citizens in the remanufacturing of sporting and military ammunition.

Please notify our elected Federal legislators that we, the law abiding citizens of North Carolina, totally oppose this decision.

Thank you for your time and efforts in this serious attack against the Second Amendment rights of the American citizenry.

Reusing brass is better then recycling it.
When it's no longer reusable that is when it gets recycled!

Pretty simple really and we all need to do our part to get the most out of the planets resources...

Jim,

I have no doubt that the Bloods and Crips will just start buying their ammo from the Drug Lords... A package deal Buy a Kilo of Cocian and we will ship you a case of 7.62x39 for your AK at the same time. The drug lords are not going to let their little drug dealers go around un-armed... Even it that means turning into Gun Runners on the side.

All calibers.

Dear Valued Customer:

Please take a moment to note important changes set forth by the Defense Logistics Agency:

Recently it has been determined that fired munitions of all calibers, shapes and sizes have been designated to be Demil code B. As a result and in conjunction with DLA's current Demil code B policy, this notice will serve as official notification which requires Scrap Venture (SV) to implement mutilation as a condition of sale for all sales of fired munitions effective immediately. This notice also requires SV to immediately cease delivery of any fired munitions that have been recently sold or on active term contracts, unless the material has been mutilated prior to sale or SV personnel can attest to the mutilation after delivery. A certificate of destruction is required in either case.

Thank you,

That's true AFAIK.

Maybe another pistol round, when they get around to ditching the crap they have now.

i'm sending a letter... here's the one i wrote, kind of combined woodsoup's and rubble's letter...

I have recently learned that the Department of Defense has stopped all sales of once-fired cartridge cases to ammunition manufacturers (at a profit!), opting to destroy the brass and sell it as scrap instead. Not only is this a waste of good, useable brass, but the U.S. Government is reducing the value of it by 80% by turning it from a useful, in-demand product to near worthless scrap. This is an outrageous waste of money, especially with our current economic situation. My tax dollars were used to manufacture this brass, and I see this as an unacceptable waste of my money. This also raises the cost of the ammunition that our own military and police have to buy, a proverbial shot in the foot. Inexpensive reloaded ammunition is an important asset for law enforcement agencies, who purchase millions of rounds for practice. With the current combat situation in the Middle East, the ammunition manufacturers will be dedicating all of their effort to re-supply our military, exacerbating the current ammunition shortage for law enforcement and civilian markets. In addition to this waste of our energy, money, and natural resources, I have been made aware that China is the largest importer of our scrap brass! Do we really need to rely on other countries for supplies that we already have?
In these harsh economic times, does it not strike you as cold and calculating that the current administration has no issue with ruining an industry that employs thousands of American citizens in the remanufacturing of sporting and military ammunition?

I and many others immediately understand that this is a circuitous assault on our Second Amendment rights by pricing ammunition out of our range. Please be aware that we, the law abiding citizens of Connecticut, oppose this decision.
Thank you for your time and efforts in this serious attack against the Second Amendment rights of the American citizenry.

People should check facts before they go crazy jumping to conclusions. Only brass that will be exported must be de-milled. There are currently at least 3 lots of brass available for bid on the DRMS website.

The manufacturers don't order the brass from the government, they bid on it just like everyone else does.
