Just a couple of updates on the #640;
1). One of our extremely nice THR members here gave me a very attractive, usable and period correct front sight ramp. (thank you Mr. J!)
2). I then found an equally nice brass-dot 3/8" dovetail front sight bead on G/Broker for about $14.00. Fit the ramp sight perfectly.
3). I then threw caution to the wind (after starting a thread about how to mount a front sight ramp on your barrel) and decided to use some super Permatex Pro gasket sealer, instead of the normal solder. This could be interesting....and I'll report back after our next range trip.
4). As for the rear ramp & sights, after spending hours scouring the 'net I decided on a Williams WGOS set, with a 3/16" tall 'U" blade. Think they were both about $23.00 sent to my house. Looks very nice and they're fully adjustable, but since my d & t'd holes on my barrel were about 1/64th" too close together, I had to do a slight bit of creative milling on the rear hole to get the second screw to go in. But no biggie, took me less than 5 minutes to modify.
5). But less than ten minutes after getting the iron sights all set up.....my friend came over with a bunch of Swift Premier scopes. So I bought a 3-9x40mm for the Marlin .22WMR bolt, and a 4.5-14x44mm Mil dot for the Husqy-----and proceeded to mount it immediately. It looks & feels great, but as you can see from the pics, the front A/O on the scope has less than 1/32" space/clearance to the rear of the Williams base mount. Which means that not only do the lens caps & the sun shade not go on with the Williams mounted, but that I also can't turn the A/O out all the way without hitting it. Which truly sucks, especially since the scope (as mounted now on the 1-piece mounting base) can not go back any further. Hmmmm.
6). Anywho, here's some pics of the above saga.......
This is the free ramp that I got.
Here's the ramp with the bead sight installed, and the Permatex stuff that I used to mount it on the barrel. The P/Tex is good for 425 degrees and is holding the ramp very securely at the moment----but we'll see what happens after the barrel gets hot.
Here's a stock photo of the Williams rear sight.....and some pics of how it looks on the Husqy (with the scope mounted).
And here's a couple of pics with the Swift Mil Dot hooked up on her. Sex-ee, yes?....
