I noticed that sever posters mentioned shejac is from a gerrymandered democratic district. Pushing all the Democrats in one district benefits the republican party. The Democrats can win one or two gerrymandered districts but they are shut our of the rest of the state.

You're in Cypress/Houston, so you should know that she's quite safe in her district. She doesn't need to court any minority vote to secure another election win. In fact, that district will forever be in the dems' column.

That's mostly true I'd agree but with shejack's loss in regards to the North Forest ISD debacle there's definitely some grumbling about her effectiveness. It kind of opens the door for another Democrat to challenge her in the primary.

Plus there's an assumption there that she's a rational thinker who feels secure in her victory. Some of the things I've seen/heard make me think she's not completely stable/rational in her thinking.

"Not completely rational" is an understatement...

From a war-is-bad-why-can't-we-just-get-along speech in Congress, "now we have two Vietnam Nams, living in peace, side by side."

From a question to a JPL official about the Mars Rover program, "Will it be able to show us the flag left behind by the Apollo astronauts?"

From comment to the National Weather Service, "why are there no African-American hurricane names?"

and the hits just keep on coming...

Isn't gerrymandering anathema to America?

Depends on what party you belong to.

Besides, as deer_freak pointed out sometimes it benefits the "losing party" in interesting ways.
