The predators search for "men" like she described. The easy prey. Nothing can completely prepare for that sudden attack. It will come at the most compromised moment of life and will be the hardest to defend against. We practice and try to be aware of surroundings...but still, it comes.
I've been lucky because it hasn't come to me...yet. I'm 63 and now into the time of life that puts the most stress/likelihood of danger of deadly confrontation. I just hope my luck doesn't run out.
At this point, I don't expect to ever become "that kind of man" in her article.

I've had a fair number of people attack me.
And I've come quite close to being attacked a number of other times. I've hit a few people, and shown others my pistol, muzzle first.
If anybody but the closest relatives or good friends is within 5 yds of you, you'd better have your guard up. Ditto when walking thru known risky areas, like parking lots, alleys, bars, public restrooms, even if you "think' that nobody else is present.

Harsh but well written. I unfortunately know some folks who fit that description. Not bad people but counterproductive in a crisis.
