What would your next gun be? I am trying to find my next purchase. I have my Ruger's but I'm looking for something a bit different.

P226 blackwater or Desert dark earth version

FN Five Seven

Glock 20
G20-600.gif

Or some version of a 1911. Probably a Para Ord or Springfield

I am also lacking a high quality long barrel AR for target duty.

Suggestions?

At first I was going to say the Blackwater because I really enjoy shooting Sigs, but there is just something about a 10mm so in the end I would pick the glock.

Glock 20 or FN. DA Sigs shouldn't haz a beavertail. It looks funny and doesn't do anything for non-gorilla hands.

Yeah, I've been gaga over the G20 for a while now. Anyone know if the new Gen 4 Glock all have a smaller grip with the optional larger back straps? I've heard reference that the other Glocks have 3 different sizes that go UP-TO the similar size of the large older G20's

They all look good. If it were me, it would be the G20. But that's me; I don't yet have a 10mm and I'm in the market for one for trail use to replace the Steyr M40 currently serving that role.

Using your Bday as an excuse to buy something you always wanted but has no practical purpose, you should definitely buy the Five-Seven.

Other than the color, I don't see what's so great about the SIG. Beavertail, "Blackwater," and the extended mag floorplate all join forces to activate my gag reflex.

Always wanted a 10mm, then I wanted a FiveseveN, Own 6 SIGs. For MY b-day I ordered an STI Trojan from their custom shop. Birthdays not until the end of August, I will be lucky if it arrives before then, due Sept 22. Of your choices the SIG would be my first choice then the FiveseveN, it depends which would see more range time. I have the 6 SIGs but not one in 9mm. Hmmm?

My vote goes for the Five-SeveN.

It's a birthday gun, make it something a step out of the "norm"

The Blackwater one here, would just end up derailing any progressive talk with fence sitters into conversations about the company, not overcoming gun-fear.

Yeah no thanks to making any fullsize pistol's grip any longer than it absolutely needs to be. Unless your hands need it longer, or it's a race gun of some type, why make it longer?

Yes, I personally felt it made enough of a difference that I bought my first glock 17. It was a tremendous difference to me, especially when shooting back to back with a friend's 17. On paper, the difference is tiiiiiiny. In person, it feels much different.

In regards to your post, the gen4 model with interchangeable backstraps is only available in the G17 and G22. It will soon be released in the G19 and G23, but that is all I am aware of. The 17, 22, 19 and 23 can be had in 3rd Gen but with the newer RTF2 finish, nut I am not aware of it being on other models. The rest of the lineup will remain regular, old Glocks. Some Glock aficionados can correct me if I am wrong.

You can get a G20SF, though. I have zero experience even fondling a G20 in the showroom so I can't advise you about it.

You know, Glock should really update their website. It really isn't that hard. 1000's of other companies do it. Did they fire their IT web guy?

Edit:: My vote is for the FiveseveN. It's your birthday, surprise yourself with something unique! The Glock is nice, but nothing especially noteworthy to me, other than scratching the 10mm itch.

The SIG may look a bit off with all the mods to it(which I happen to like!), but having shot a Blackwater I can say it was amazingly smooth shooting and well balanced. So, that'd be my #1 pick. The five-7 is really fun to shoot too, and super light. The ammo price may be prohibitive though. Good luck, have fun, and Happy Birthday, Wolvee!

My buddy pointed out to me today that I don't have a good sub compact for EDC and that I'm eventually going to start leaving my full size at home. For practicality sakes I'm throwing two more guns in the mix for everyone:

Sig P232 or the PPK in .380 (Something classy for this category)
Some of you will recognize this picture but I don't know who's they are.

No subcompact? Then I would say you should check out the Glock 26 or 27, I bought one for the dimensions and caliber and since then have started to actually kind of like the design. Didn't care for it much before I owned one though.

I was having this same dilemma since my birthday is in a few days as well. I used my b-day as an excuse to get the P64, but the ESP was the main present, until I got the urge to impersonate Dirty Harry.. :D

Do your self a favor and get the Glock 20. It is probably the only 10mm that was made to withstand the pressures of the 10mm round. Usually a manufacturer would simply scale up a .45acp pistol and chamber it in 10mm. This caused problems with some (not all) of these weapons. Glock did it the exact opposite, they put their .45acp in the 10mm gun so they would never have any problems, makes perfect sense to me. The FN FiveSeven would also be a great choice, just keep in mind the over penetration issue with both of these great calibers.
