I got into a friendly argument with a co-worker about who the NRA really works for. I argued the fact the no other institute that relates to the firearm industry, pours more money into legal battles and other challenges that gun people face. He insisted that the NRA works for the gun manufactures, retailers, and other firearms related businesses that lines the NRA pocket. Simple poll folks, if you believe that they work for gun manufactures and other firearms bushiness, click yes. If you believe they work for us common folk click no. I am just curious to what other people think.

If you think they work for both then do not click on poll, I forgot to add that option in the poll. Thanks Mod

I think they work for pretty much all of us who have an interest in firearms, but I do believe that money plays a part. After all, where would the firearms industry be without those of us "common" folk who spend money on the product?

I did not cast a vote in the poll.

I think Robert nailed it. They work for the good of the gun community. That would involve working for the good of both the comman gun owner and the company. The comman gun owner needs the companies. The companies need the comman gun owner. Both need the NRA

This poll is a massive fail.............

He insisted that the NRA works for the gun manufactures, retailers, and other firearms related businesses that lines the NRA pocket.
Your friend is an idiot. Where does he think the $$$$ come from? Taxes?

People buy guns from gun dealers.retailers/gun manufacturers.
Manufacturers often donate to causes and organizations that promote the Second Amendment.

Therefore EVERYONE.....gun owner, dealer, manufacturer, etc are all jointly involved in funding and supporting the NRA.

The NRA is us.....all of us.

I have to agree with Robert. If they work for manufacturers, it benefits us and if they work for us it benefits the manufacturers. It's a mutual admiration society.

I think they benefit quite a bit from manufacturers... but manufacturers benefit from us. So I voted "no"... they work for us. Without us, there would be no them.

How about a mention by the anti-NRA types (who support our present freedoms to buy/own both firearms..And ammo) of any other organization which has influence in Congress, and that influence begins to compare with what the NRA has achieved?

They work for the freedom to own firearms. They are fighting for our freedom to own a gun. They are fighting for the individuals freedom to own guns. Clear enough?

This benefits gun makers, gun sellers, the freight guys, etc, etc.

Without the NRA in the last 50 or so years, we would have no gun rights.

Do not fall into the trap of "the NRA works for the gun makers" as perpetuated by the anti gun media.

As set up, the poll is flawed.

The firearms industry is represented by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and its membership is made up of companies rather then individuals. Among other things they run the popular Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor, Trade (SHOT) Show.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is mostly made up of individual members, and represents them. However in many instances - especially involving gun control legislation - the best interests of both the industry and individuals within the shooting community are the same, and when this happens the NRA may speak for both.

The NRA is the spearpoint in the fight against gun control laws because they're membership represents both votes as well as money, and the "anti's" know it.

Definitely both!

Without a large number of citizens able to buy guns, only a few mega defense contractors would be making them.

Without a lot of gun makers we'd have little choice in what to buy. The innovations in super small for their caliber self-defense pistols have all originated in small companies -- Seecamp, Kahr, Kel-Tec, etc. Only recently have the established makers like S&W, SIG, Ruger, SA jumped in.

I don't think ANY organization that works to change laws in Washington can/does work for ONLY the individual members of that organization. Just the fact that they are willing to accept financial donations from any person or organization with money to spare makes them work for all of us, companies as well as individuals.

Name me one organization that does not accept money from manufacturers/distributors/retail sellers of a product.

In my opinion, if not for the NRA, only police, military, criminals and people in high places (like politicians, for example) would be allowed to own firearms.

Who do they work for?

I think the NRA is an effective advocate for protecting 2A rights. But they work for themselves. I get another solicitation from them in the mail about every other week. :scrutiny:

I'm confused on this poll question as well. It's like my Dad always used to ask me, "do you walk to school or carry your lunch?"

They work for restoring some of the many 2A-related freedoms we've lost over the years. They get their funding from many places. Individuals, businesses, groups, PACs, etc.
Who does the Brady Campaign/VPC work for?

I have my qualms with the NRA, but realistically they work for the people. The gun manufacturers themselves don't make any more money off of 17-rnd mags than the do 10-rounders, nor will it hurt them if they're selling single-shots instead of semi-autos. Whatever is legal will still sell, and the manufacturers will ALWAYS make their money.

And yes, the poll is very, VERY poorly worded.

Definitely a failure on the way the poll is worded and how the answers are worded as well.
You may as well ask people "Do you walk to work or carry your lunch?" True or False......
The NRA receives funding from multiple sources as do many organizations. I would ask your coworker where the American Civil Liberties Union gets their funding? How about First Amendment First? or a host of other Bill of Rights related organizations.
All are funded by entities both public and private, Corporate, and individual to support and defend the Bill of Rights. If one group is to be "shut down" because they are a shill for single issues all of them would then need to be shut down.
The NRA advocates for individual Second Amendment Rights by contributions from a wide variety of funding sources.

I get another solicitation from them in the mail about every other week.

Most likely the NRA-ILA.

The Institute for Legislative Action must raise separate finds for lobbying since the NRA itself is a tax exempt organization and not allowed to use dues for lobbying.

Lobbying is NOT a zero cost activity.
At the very least the lobbyist wants to get paid.
