I'm curious too see what others did when they made their "favorite"

I recently bought a Springfield Armory Loaded 1911A1 in parkerized finish and brought it to Bob Cogan http://www.apwcogan.com/ to get the gun Brushed hard chrome with matte lower areas, jeweled barrel and hammer, all internals are hardchromed and smooth, carbon creations blue/black grips, trigger job.

The gun turned out great and man can it group, Its putting the rounds through the same hole. Im already thinking about making a twin to keep her company;)

sorry about the picture quality I cant get this digi cam to take good pics.

They make the Loaded in Parkerized now? Man, not being able to get on gun sights at work for about a year has put me out of touch!!

Very nice looking there! I have a Milspec Parkerized, but I'm thinking about getting a stainless Milspec to trick out a little. Basically, I like the Milspec 1911 look better. The front slide serrations bug me... I like it smooth. Also, I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't mind the milspec grip safety and hammer. I figure maybe a combat hammer, a better rear sight, trigger job and a nice barrel/bushing and she'd be great.

I have a buddy that knows Jim Clark in Louisiana, and he can probably get me a deal on some custom work. I'd mostly do accuracy, reliability and trigger work, rather than changing the appearance, tho. I like the 'sleeper' appeal of a plain looking 1911 that can shoot the wings of a gnat at 20 paces. ;)

Very nice looking 1911 you have, though. I like the grips!

Here's my Valtro 1998A1. I had John Jardine hard-chrome it, give it a trigger job, add night sights, change the grips (J10 with Torx screws), add an S&A extended magwell, and replace the ambi safety with a tactical version (doesn't stick out nearly as much). The trigger is unbelievable, and shoots like a champ.

Nice gun, looks real clean. Yeah I had him smooth out the trigger a bit, it breaks clean and its not heavy anymore.

O, also this is my 1st 1911(Didnt understand what all the hype was about untill I got one!) one question...The gun has a total of 1,100 rounds through it(400 from me, 700 from previous owner) and today when I stripped her down after the range the pin that holds the link on the barrel just fell out, I played around with it and it stays in now if i tilt it from side to side, but its not in tight at all, is it safe to shoot or should that piece only come out with a punch?

Here is my Springfield Target Model. Kustom Ballistics did the work.
Fitted a match bushing
polished feed ramp
trigger job and a flat aluminum match trigger @ 2 1/2 lbs'
changed mainspring
changed the mag release (magazines wouldn't drop free sometimes)
Silverwood grips from Ajax

The attached pictures show my 1991 modified by John Harrison of Precision Gunworks. The following work is a brief summary of what was done to the base pistol (the only remaing Colt parts are the slide, frame, barrel, GI plug, magazine release/catch, and slide stop):

1) Flatten and serrate top of slide at 40 lpi.

2) Custom post front sight and Heinie Slant-Pro rear sight. Sights regulated for 230-grain standard velocity ammo at 25 yards.

3) New fire control components with overtravel screw in trigger both staked and Lok-tited. Short trigger set to about 4.5#. New Series '80 components added as well.

4) Front strap serrated at 20 lpi. Flat serrated mainspring housing. Magazine opening bevelled to aid in reloads.

5) New barrel bushing fit to existing barrel.

6) New plunger housing since original not properly staked to frame.

7) Pistol dehorned

It is one heck of a shooter.

Engraved Remington -Rand

I've posted this one once or twice. It's kinda stock (or at least looks it). 1945-vintage Remington-Rand. Match barrel, King's sights, Videcki trigger, C&S internals, McCormick grips. Oh, and somebody scratched it up.... :D

Custom Springfield 1911

And this one is my "go to" gun. If I need a gun right now, this is the one I grab. 100% reliable. Currently loaded with 230 gr Gold Dots....and sitting on the desk about two feet away.

My favorite handguns are a matched set of 1911 .45 caliber pistols crafted for me by Ed Cameron.

Nice guns. I won't bore you with mine. Ed does very nice work and I can see a taste of Chuck in there. You are a very lucky man to have such fine machinery!

Thank you Captain for your kind words.

Your guns are truly superior shooters. They show what precision craftsmanship should be.

Regards

I'll get a better picture of this eventually, but it's in storage right now. This started out as a Kimber Eclipse Ultra. I bought the Eclipse Ultra because it's the only 3" Kimber with an all steel frame and slide. I loved the way the Eclipse finish looked, but don't like carry guns that are reflective or shiny.

The Eclipse line already comes with great checkering and night sights, so this has had a bevel treatment, ambi-safety (I'm a lefty), EB grip safety, and all black KimPro finish. At the moment it has their basic black rubber grips, which I like the feel of, but I have some utlra slim grips that I'm going to put on when I get a chance.

Ironically, I actually have more money wrapped up in this gun then any gun I own (cost of the original gun plus mods)... and I'll probably never carry it! It feeds reliably, I enjoy shooting it, but for what ever reason, I'm way more accurate with other guns I own (ones that cost 1/3 what I have in this one!). Oh well, live and learn.
