Shot my Pietta 1860 Army today.

25 yards, from sitting, one handed with my hand supported on my right knee. I was shooting at a 12" Shoot-n-c target, with a 6:00 hold.

I could have done better, I think, if I'd thought to blacken the front sight. It was sunny today, and that brass bead was sure hard to see with these almost 57 year old eyes - hence the vertical stringing.

As you can see from the pasters, I shot two 6-round groups - there were two balls through one hole in both groups! In the first group, the paster in the top of the orange had two balls through it. In the second group it's the top hole closest to the holster.

Load was some 15 year old remnants of Pyrodex-P - not really sure what the grains are, but I'm using an old CVA powder measure that came with the pistol starter kit. Also I'm using 15 year old CCI #11 primers, as well as the remains of my first box of Hornady .454 round balls. If I were to throw and weigh a couple of charges of Pyrodex-P on my electronic scale, could somebody tell me what the equivalent charge of black powder this powder measure is throwing?

Also, I'm a Moose Milk baby now! I bought a 16 oz can of Ballistol last week, and mixed up 3 oz of Ballistol with 21 ozs of tap water. Mixed it in an empty 24 oz Windex spray bottle.

After shooting, I broke the revolver down and sprayed the barrel and cylinder inside and out, as well as the breech area of the frame. Ran a .45 brush down the barrel (Came out black and greasy). Followed up with one patch that came out dirty, then a second patch that came out pretty clean. I then dunked the barrel and cylinder in a bucket of water and swished 'em around. I then pumped a couple of wet patches through the barrel and through each chamber until they came out spotless. Blew the barrel and cylinder off with my air compressor, hosed out the action with WD40, followed up with a good spray down with RemOil, and a RemOil-soaked patch down the bore. Finally I greased up the arbor with wheel bearing grease, and put her together.

I don't anything I've previously tried worked as well as Moose Milk for cleaning.

I still haven't settled on a grease. Tried Crisco, but I think I'll stick with wheel bearing grease until something better comes along.
